Sylver ELIJAH Was Arrested

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Thursday June 13, 2024, at just after 6:00 a.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspected impaired driver in the area of Lasalle Line, St. Clair Township.    

While on general patrol, an OPP officer observed the motor vehicle travelling on Lasalle Line and conducted a traffic stop. In speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the OPP officer suspected the driver of previously consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside screening device was administered. The driver was consequently placed under arrest and transported to the Lambton OPP – Corunna Detachment for breath testing which resulted in readings over twice the legal limit.

Sylver ELIJAH, a 19-year-old from Onieda Nation of Thames, First Nation has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus),
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol.
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No License

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia on July 22, 2024. The motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of 7 days and the driver has had their license suspended for a period of 90 days.

Paula SHORTT Was Arrested

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – Alert OPP officer performs traffic stop and charges driver with impaired operation.

On April 26, 2024, at 11:16 p.m., a member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol on Murray Street in Corunna, St. Clair Township, performed a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Paula SHORTT, a 55-year-old of Corunna, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on June 6, 2024.

The Lambton OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Roger NEWBY Was Arrested

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – Driver charged with impaired operation after member of the public reports traffic complaint of possible impaired driver.

On April 19, 2024, at 7:43 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a traffic complaint on 40 Highway in St. Clair Township, for the report of a possible impaired driver.

The vehicle was located, at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Roger NEWBY, a 56-year-old of Courtright, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 14, 2024.

The Lambton OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(ST CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – Sarnia driver facing multiple charges as a result of a traffic stop for speeding.

On April 19, 2024, at 11:53 a.m., a Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) member, while on general patrol on 40 Highway in St Clair Township, observed a vehicle travelling above the posted 80 km/h posted speed limit.  

A traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver was suspended.

Further investigation revealed the driver was breaching conditions of release, at which time they were placed under arrest without incident.

As a result, Brian HELWIG, a 41-year-old of Sarnia, has been charged under Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
  • Driving while under suspension (two counts)
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 27, 2024, to speak to the charges.
