Home Invasion – Patrick GAUTHIER Arrested

(SPANISH, ON) – Police arrest person after breaking into residence and assault.

On May 18, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to an apartment on Front Street in Spanish. The complainant reported a known male had broken into their apartment and wanted a Compact Disc (CD) back. When the complainant said he didn’t have it, the person assaulted and threatened him.  The person departed prior to police arrival but was later arrested on Lewis Street.  

Patrick GAUTHIER, 25-years-old, of Spanish, was charged with:

  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Assault
  • Utter threats – cause death or bodily harm

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 3, 2025.

Travis BUDGE – Dangerous Operation

(SPANISH, ON)- The East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigate damage to hydro poles.

On Tuesday April 8, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the OPP responded to a mischief complaint on Beckerton Shooting Range Road in the Town of Spanish after a power company reported multiple copper wire thefts from utility poles over the past several weeks.

Investigation revealed that on Monday April 7, a yellow side-by-side vehicle with an extension ladder was seen in the area, with two occupants. About an hour later, the vehicle was seen leaving. An employee later discovered that the ground wire of a utility pole had been cut off, though it wasn’t copper, resulting in about $1,000 in damage.

On April 8, police observed the same side-by-side at a local gas station in Spanish, but it fled at high speed when approached.

On Wednesday April 9, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., police made an arrest and as result, Travis BUDGE, 35 years-of-age from Spanish was charged with:

  • Mischief under $5000
  • Dangerous operation

The accused appeared is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 5, 2025.

Matthew PILON Was Arrested Again

(SPANISH)- OPP follow ATV tracks on foot and locate ATV in a swamp area. 

On December 8, 2024, the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Brennan Harbour Road in the Town of Spanish.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police observed an ATV evading the RIDE check. The vehicle then fled westbound on Brennan Harbour Road, turned into a driveway, and entered a trail heading toward Lake Huron.

Police followed the ATV tracks on foot and eventually discovered the vehicle stuck in a swampy area. Continuing to track fresh footprints, police followed them back to Brennan Harbour Road for a short distance before venturing into a wooded area. As they advanced, the sound of breaking branches was heard, and shortly after, the driver emerged from the tree line and was arrested.

As a result, Matthew PILON, 24 years-old from Spanish, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to comply with probation order-two counts
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Disobey stop sign

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.

Jayden KOPER Was Arrested Again

(SPANISH, ON) – Unwanted person brandishes knife in homeowner’s house.

On October 11, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons complaint at a residence on Doyle Street in the Town of Spanish.

Investigation determined an unwanted person armed with a knife was in the complainant’s house and had brandished it multiple times, pointed it at the complainant in a threatening manner and left the residence.

Officers set up containment of the scene and were assisted by the OPP’s Critical Incident Command, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Crisis Negotiators.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., as a warrant to search was executed at the Doyle Street residence, the accused fled through a basement window and with the assistance from the North East Canine Unit a subsequent arrest was made.

As a result, Jayden KOPER, 21 years-of-age from Spanish was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River and was remanded into custody.

Alvin LINDHORST – Theft

(SPANISH, ON)- On October 4, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft complaint at the Spanish Four Seasons Waterfront Complex on Garnier Road in the Town of Spanish.

With the assistance from the Manitoulin Detachment OPP the investigation determined an individual attended the complex to get coffee and water. The person leaves, walks past a pick-up to their van. The person then walks back to the pick-up truck and removes a tri-ball hitch and leaves. The suspect and vehicle are identified by employees and surveillance video.

On October 7, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the suspect was arrested in Blind River and as a result, Alvin LINDHORST, 55-years-old from Spanish was charged with: Theft Under $5000.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on November 7, 2024.

Joanna STROINSKA – Drive While Suspended

(SPANISH, ON)- OPP located erratic driver in Spanish.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint an eastbound pick-up truck that was all over the road on Highway 17 near the Town of Spanish.

With the assistance from the Manitoulin OPP Detachment, police located the vehicle parked at a local motel parking lot with the driver and passenger out of the pick-up truck. While speaking to the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed.    The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was arrested. 

As a result, Joanna STROINSKA, 34 years-of-age from Woodstock was charged with:

  • Failure of refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Elliot Lake on October 3, 2024.

7 Gram Drug Bust #WorldSaved

(SPANISH, ON) – On March 27, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a Controlled Dugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at a residence on Doyle Street in Spanish.

As a result of the warrant being executed, over 7 grams of pre-packaged suspected cocaine, a digital scale, packaging materials, and cell phone was seized. 

The OPP’s Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, and uniform members were involved with the investigation.         

Bryan JONES, 39-years-old, of Spanish was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

·      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2024.

Steve GRANBERG, 47-years-old, of Massey, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in relation to a previous occurrence in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township. He was subsequently arrested and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2024.
