Murder – Kyle BARRY Arrested

(SHUNIAH, ON) – The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one person in connection with a homicide investigation in Shuniah.

On Monday, July 14, 2025, shortly after 10:50 p.m., OPP officers responded to a residence on Blind Creek Drive, where one person was located deceased. One person was taken into custody.

The deceased has been identified as Shelley MARCONI, 57 years old of Shuniah.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle BARRY, 26 years old of Shuniah, was charged with second degree murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The OPP North West Region Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is also being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.

One Dead – Chelsey KILAR Charged

(SHUNIAH, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad have made an arrest in relation to a fatal collision that happened on Highway 11/17 near Mirror Lake in Shuniah Township on December 17, 2023.

As a result of the investigation Chelsey KILAR, 36-years-old, of Red Rock Ontario has been arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant for the following charges under the Criminal Code:

·      Dangerous operation causing death

·      Operation causing death

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 7, 2025

Traffic safety remains a top priority of the OPP and is a key component of the OPP’s public safety mandate. Investigations resulting in the loss of life and serious injuries can be complex to investigate. As the vast majority of fatal collisions are preventable, thorough and accurate investigations help ensure that motorists who cause these collisions are held accountable for their driving behaviors. The victims and their families deserve no less.

Jesse GUITARD – Drunk Driving

(SHUNIAH, ON) – A traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver has led to charges being laid.

On August 5, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver on Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Jesse GUITARD, 33-years-old, of Shuniah, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Dangerous Operation

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on September 18, 2024.

Joseph RITOLA Was Arrested

(SHUNIAH, ON) – A single motor vehicle collision leaves one person with a lengthy list of charges for impaired operation.

On June 14, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., members of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical Services responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Joseph RITOLA, 28-years-old, of Thunder Bay has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Dangerous Operation

·        Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

·        Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

·        Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on August 28, 2024.

There were no serious injuries reported to police as a result of the collision.

Fatal Collision

(SHUNIAH, ON) – On May 5, 2024, just after 5:00 a.m., members of the Thunder bay OPP Detachment along with Emergency Medical Services and Fire responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Lakeshore Drive, in Shuniah Municipality involving a single passenger vehicle which was on fire in the eastbound ditch.

Investigation revealed an eastbound vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the eastbound ditch. A 34-year old female driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and later pronounced deceased at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The deceased is from Thunder Bay, Ontario. NOK have been notified.

The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and OPP Collision Re-constructionists are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

LOPEZ Arrested For Drunk Driving

(SHUNIAH, ON) – A single motor vehicle collision leads to impaired charges by the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On March 17, 2024, just after 5:30 a.m., members of the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah. There were no serious injuries reported to police as a result.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Thalia LOPEZ, 25-years-old, of Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 30, 2024.
