Armed Robbery At Convenience Store

On January 4, 2021, at approximately 1 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a convenience store on Highland Road East, in Kitchener for a report of a robbery. The suspect entered the store, brandished a weapon, and demanded money.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. The suspect has been described as female, white, approximately 5’7″ tall, with a thin build, wearing a grey jacket with a white inner hood, dark jeans, and black running shoes. Police are looking to identify and speak with this individual in connection to the incident. Hero Chases Down Criminal & Pins Him To The Ground Until Police Arrive – William BOYD-URENA Arrested

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – On January 1, 2021 at approximately 11:15 a.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on James Street North, Town of Forest.  

While on route to the residence, Lambton OPP Community Street Crime Unit was advised the home owner had chased the suspect on foot and was holding the suspect on the ground, awaiting police arrival.  

William BOYD-URENA, 28 year old of Forest, was arrested and charged with the following, pursuant to the Criminal Code

  • Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence

The accused was released and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia on February 8, 2021.

Police Officer Tests Positive For Covid-19

The Waterloo Regional Police Service has been notified that a sworn member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The officer, who is currently assigned to Central Division, was last at work on December 28, 2020, and is currently self-isolating and following all recommended health guidelines.

All areas where the member worked have been cleaned and sanitized.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service has been working closely with Waterloo Region Public Health to ensure proper contact tracing is undertaken. At this time, it has been determined that no high-risk contact was made with any member of the public.

Kyle WATSON Arrested For Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On December 30, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped the driver of a red passenger vehicle on Wellington Road 124 near Wellington Road 27 in Brucedale.

While speaking with the driver, police determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Kyle WATSON, 26-years-old of the Town of Erin has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) and Impaired Operation-alcohol or drug contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph on January 22, 2021 to answer to the charges.  

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

16 Year Old Repeat Offender & 14 Year Old Arrested – Stolen Vehicle And Property Recovered

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On December 28, 2020, at approximately 7:00 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of two suspicious persons that appeared to be looking into parked cars in the area of Park Street and Edgewood Street in Eden Mills.  

It was reported that the two suspects arrived in the area in a white pick-up truck. The truck was reported stolen out of Toronto.

A witness confronted the suspects who then fled on foot into a wooded area.  Police set up containment and arrested two youths a short time later.

During the investigation, police seized several credit cards.

A 16-year-old youth from Toronto has been charged with;

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (3 counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order (2 counts)

The youth was held for a Bail Hearing and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph.

A 14-year-old youth from Toronto has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

The 14-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Youth Court-Guelph on January 27, 2021 to answer to the charge.

One Deceased, One Arrested In Lambton County

(ST. CLAIR TWP, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident in the early morning hours of December 31, 2020 on Riverside Drive, St. Clair Township. One party was pronounced deceased at the scene, and one party was arrested at the scene.  

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and Lambton OPP Crime Unit.  

The victim has been identified as Cheryl VANHUIZEN, 51 years-old of Corunna.  

Shawn TROWBRIDGE, 51 years-old of Corunna, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, pursuant to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.  

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and was remanded into custody.  

This is an isolated incident and there is no concern for the public’s safety.

Impaired Driver Facing Hit & Run Charge

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On December 24, 2020, at approximately 2:00 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver on Township Road 3 north of Wellington Road 30 in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

It was reported that a vehicle left the road, struck a pole, and rolled over. Witnesses told police that the driver fled the scene on foot.

While patrolling the area, police located the driver near the collision scene. Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and underwent further testing.

Shawn LOUDEN, 54-years-old of Hamilton, has been charged with;

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug
  • Careless Driving
  • Fail to Remain

38 Criminal Charges For 38 Year Old

On December 31, 2020, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police Service’s South CORE (Community Oriented Response and Enforcement) Team located and arrested a 38-year-old Cambridge male for an outstanding warrant near downtown Galt. Further police investigation revealed the male was breaching several of his release order terms.

The male was also unlawfully in possession of several government identity cards, bank cards, and financial documents, which were seized. As a result of the investigation, the male was charged with 38 criminal code offences, 1 count possession of controlled substance schedule 1, contrary to the Controlled Drug Substance Act, and 1 count of Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 1, 2021.

26 Year Old Facing Drugged Driving Charge – BELL

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on December 30, 2020 at approximately 11:50 a.m. on William Street in Paris in the County of Brant.

County of Brant OPP members attended the area and located the involved vehicles and conducted an investigation. They found that driver of one of the vehicles was impaired by drug and in possession of cocaine and fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation police have charged the driver Kassaundra BELL 26-years-old of The City of Brantford with Operation while impaired by alcohol or drug contrary to Section 320.14(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

They have also been charged with Possession of a schedule 1 drug (fentanyl) contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and Possession of a schedule 1 drug (cocaine) contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date to answer to the charges. If convicted, the offender will be subject to the Criminal Code penalties, including a fine or jail time, and a driving prohibition.

Spike Belt Used To Stop 17 Year Old In Stolen Vehicle

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Tuesday December 29, 2020 at 7:41 p.m. members of the Oneida Police Service along with the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a fail to remain (FTR) collision on Chippewa Rd. involving a pickup truck and a motor vehicle. The pickup was located a short time later by officers and was observed driving through an open field. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed as the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the scene. The suspect vehicle stopped a short distance away and the driver fled the scene on foot, with officers in fresh pursuit.  

Members of the OPP K9 Unit arrived on scene and a suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

Police have confirmed that the pickup truck involved in the FTR collision had been reported stolen to the London Police Service. During this investigation police also located and recovered two other stolen vehicles.

As a result of an investigation police have charged a 17 year old youth from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation with:

  •    Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada as per section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
  •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

The youth has been release from police custody and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice on February 22 to speak to the charges.

Another Church Violates Shutdown Rules

On December 30, 2020, Waterloo Regional Police, in consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, issued a charge under the ROA to members of a church located on Lobsinger Line in Woolwich Township. On December 27, 2020, Waterloo Regional Police responded to the church located on Lobsinger Line in Woolwich Township and observed breaches of the province-wide shutdown restrictions.

On December 26, 2020, the Province placed the Region of Waterloo in shutdown, limiting weddings, funerals and other religious services, rites, or ceremonies where physical distancing can be maintained to 10 people indoors and 10 people outdoors.

As we continue to witness a rise in COVID-19 cases globally, nationally, and locally, the Waterloo Regional Police Service reminds residents to stay home and only leave for essential reasons. We understand that many people have had to make adjustments to the way they live and interact. However, we continue to encourage everyone to practice physical distancing and use a face covering when 2 meters cannot be maintained.

To help slow the spread of COVID-19 this holiday season and throughout the shutdown period, stay home as much as possible. Only gather with those in your household and stay connected with friends and family virtually.

The charged members were issued Part III Summons, Contrary to section 10.1 of the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, for a gathering at another prescribed premises, being a place of worship and the number of people in attendance exceeded the number permitted per a continued section 7.0.2 order of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

Cruiser And Snow Plow Struck During Escape – Suspect Still At Large

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Wednesday December 30, 2020 at 3:55 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of suspicious persons, attempting to enter a parked motor vehicle on Gore Rd., Thames Centre. Police learned that the suspects were observed fleeing the area in a white Chevrolet Cruze motor vehicle.

Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle a short time later on Nissouri Rd. and Robin’s Hill Rd., Thames Centre. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, when the suspect vehicle struck the rear end of a second marked OPP cruiser and fled the scene through the ditch area, before striking a snow plow.

No injuries were reported as a result of this investigation and damaged to the police vehicle and snow plow were minor.

Middlesex OPP are looking for information related to the white Chevrolet Cruze. The vehicle is believed to have suffered severe front end damage as a result of striking the OPP cruiser, ditch and snow plow.

Failing To Pay For Sex Results In Fraud & Sexual Assault Charges

(ORILLIA, ON) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members from the new Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-led Joint Forces Investigations, with assistance from the Orillia Crime Unit and detachment members, arrested and charged a multi-jurisdictional offender.

In May 2020, the investigation began with allegations made by a victim who did not get paid for their services. During the investigation, numerous multi-jurisdictional incidences dating back to 2010 were identified and additional victims came forward with similar complaints.

As a result of the investigation, 58-year-old Tony ORR, of Huntsville, has been charged with:

  • Sexual assault, Section 271 CCC (X3);
  • Communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services, Section 286.1(1) CCC (X1); and,
  • Fraud under $5,000.00, Section 380(1)(b) CCC (X2)

The accused in scheduled to appear in court on January 26, 2021. Previous charges are before the court.

60 Year Old With Gun Arrested – Name Released

(COUNTY of BRANT, ON) – County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to attend a suspicious vehicle incident from a concerned citizen on McPherson School Road in The County of Brant at approximately 1:00 a.m. on December 30, 2020.

County of Brant OPP attended and located a vehicle matching the description on East River Road in the County of Brant and initiated a traffic stop.

Investigators located a located a firearm inside the vehicle and have charged Lloyd WILLIAMSON 60-years-old of The County of Brant with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Careless storage of a firearm Contrary to Section 86(1)
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon Contrary to Section 91(1)

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Head On Collisions Avoided – 52 Year Old Facing Dangerous Driving Charge

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – On December 19, 2020, at approximately 10:00 p.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol in the area of Wellington Road 109 in the Township of Mapleton.

At this time, the officer observed a white pick-up truck travelling westbound at a high rate of speed while attempting to pass other motor vehicles. Two eastbound vehicles were forced to take evasive action by swerving to avoid a head-on collision. 

Another officer who was a little further west, observed the white pick-up travelling at a speed that appeared well above the posted 80 km/h limit. The vehicle was locked on radar travelling in excess of 165km/h.

A short time later, the same pick-up truck was spotted by a witness and police on Main Street in Palmerston. After nearly causing another collision, police measured the vehicle’s speed of 115km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. Police did not pursue the pick-up due to safety concerns.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle was observed by another officer travelling eastbound on Wellington Road 109 at Wellington Road 10, Township of Mapleton. The officer was conducting stationary radar and measured a speed in excess of 170km/h in a posted 80km/h zone. The officer deployed a tire deflation device and police were successful in stopping the pick-up truck. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Vincenzo E. D’AGOSTINO, 52-years-old, of Vaughan has been charged with Dangerous Driving contrary to the Criminal Code and Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The Accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph on January 12, 2021 to answer to the charges. The vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
