2 From Brampton Arrested In Butter Heist

On Sunday February 23, 2025, a Loss Prevention Officer at an upper east side grocery store observed three males steal several containers of ghee from the store. The males left in a vehicle and attended another retailer nearby. That same Loss Prevention Officer, now off duty, happened to be in that store and recognized the three males. Believing that the males would steal from that store, he contacted the Owen Sound Police Service. As a result, police attended and located the culprits in their vehicle, before they were able to slip away with over $1000.00 worth of butter and almost $300.00 worth of ghee.

Two men from Brampton, aged 24yrs and 21yrs, as well as a 21yr old man from Caledon, face two charges each of Theft Under $5000.00 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The men are scheduled to make a court appearance in Owen Sound in March.

Restaurant Defrauded Out Of $25,000+

A 42-year-old Meaford man has been arrested and charged at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by the Owen Sound Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch after an Owen Sound Restaurant was defrauded out of more than $25,000. 

The investigation determined that the accused was able to steal a bank card and associated pin number for one of the restaurant’s business accounts.  After stealing the card, the accused proceeded to withdraw cash and make numerous unauthorized purchases at various bank machines and businesses in both the City of Owen Sound and the Town of Meaford.   A regularly occurring audit conducted by restaurant staff revealed the transactions and missing funds, and the matter was reported to the Owen Sound Police for investigation.

On February 6, 2025 the accused was arrested and charged with Fraud Exceeding $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, Unauthorized Possession of Credit Card Data, and Wearing a Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence.

 This accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound in March of 2025.

Woman Shoveling Snow Struck in Chain Reaction Collision

On Tuesday January 21, 2025 at approximately 8:30 p.m. a 2010 Mercedes travelling westbound on 8th Street East struck the rear of an unoccupied Chevrolet Cruz that was parked on the side of the roadway with its hazard lights activated.  The Chevrolet Cruz was pushed forward by the impact of the collision and subsequently struck a 24- year-old female who was shoveling snow. The vehicle also hit a Volkswagen Jetta that was parked in the driveway.

The female victim was taken to Brightshores Hospital by ambulance and was later transferred to a London hospital for further treatment of what preliminary information would suggest are serious injuries. 

 All three involved vehicles were towed from the scene.

 The 29-year-old male driver of the Mercedes, who remained at the scene, was charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm.

$47,000 Owen Sound Drug Bust

On December 28th, 2024 the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a domestic assault incident in the 1000 block of 3rd Ave E.  The investigation lead to the arrest of a 47-year-old Owen Sound man.

As part of the investigation, the Owen Sound Police Service sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence.  The search warrant was executed by Uniform officers and members of the Criminal Investigations Branch resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.  The amount of fentanyl seized during this investigation equates to 2030 individual doses.  The street value of the illicit drugs is estimated at $47,000.

As a result of the investigation, the offender is charged with:

1)      Robbery with violence;

2)      Three counts of Uttering Threats – cause death or bodily harm;

3)      Three counts of Assault;

4)      Two counts of Assault with a weapon;

5)      Sexual Assault;

6)      Sexual assault using a restricted or prohibited firearm;

7)      Two counts of Forcible Confinement;

8)      Two counts of Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;

9)      Three counts of Possession of a Schedule I substance;

10)  Three counts of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking;

11)  Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada.

 The offender was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for December 29th, 2024.

Owen Sound Murder Update

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – Arrests have been made in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation being conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS).

The investigation began when Sharifur RAHMAN, 44 years old of Owen Sound, was assaulted in the area of 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound on August 17, 2023, at approximately 9:20 p.m. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on August 24, 2023. Police released a description and photos of two suspects and a vehicle, requesting public information.

As a result of the investigation, arrests have been made on July 30, 2024. Due to the complexity of this ongoing investigation and to protect its integrity and potential court proceedings, the OPP and OSPS are unable to comment further at this time. Updates will be provided when they become available.

The OSPS and the OPP thank the Owen Sound community for their support and valuable tips provided. We recognize the significant impact this case has had on the community and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

The investigation continues by the OSPS under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OSPS and OPP West Region Crime Units, OSPS and OPP Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Regional Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Michelle Schwippl – Impaired Driving

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver while they were travelling through Owen Sound.

On August 8, 2024, at 2:35 a.m., the Grey Bruce OPP were travelling on 10th Street East in the City of Owen Sound when they located a vehicle stopped at a green light and noticed the driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel. While the officers were speaking to the driver, they were displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician along with a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Michelle Schwippl, 42-years-old of Hanover was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 5, 2024.

Road safety is a priority for the OPP and officers are trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), giving them the skills to identify a driver who is impaired by a drug. Officers can also use Approved Drug Screening Equipment to enforce zero tolerance sanctions with young, novice and commercial drivers. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Drunk Driver Hits Pedestrian

On Wednesday May 8th, 2024, at 3:40 p.m., the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a collision near 4th Avenue West and 16th Street West in Owen Sound.  It was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

Emergency Services attended, including Grey County Paramedics, who transported the 14 year old pedestrian to Brightshores Health System for treatment of injuries. 

Police investigation led Officers to a West side residential area where the involved driver and vehicle were located.   The 47 year old female driver was found to be impaired by alcohol and arrested by Police. 

After providing samples of her breath into an approved Intoxilyzer instrument, the results showed that the blood alcohol levels of the driver were more than 3 times the legal limit.  The accused woman from Owen Sound has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Operating with Over 80mg of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Failing to Stop After Accident contrary to the Criminal Code.  The accused is to appear in court to answer to the charges on May, 23rd, 2024, in Owen Sound.

Motorcyclist Airlifted After Collision

On May 6th, 2024, at approximately 9:45 hours, a collision occurred at the intersection of 2nd Avenue West and 9th Street West, Owen Sound, involving a car and a motorcycle.  The Owen Sound Police Service, with the assistance of the Owen Sound Fire Department, had the intersection shut down for several hours. 

Investigation of the collision found the involved motorcycle to be travelling northbound in the 800 block of 2nd Avenue West approaching the intersection at 9th Street West, when a 4 door Nissan sedan, travelling southbound, turned left onto 9th Street West, directly into the motorcycle’s path.  The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Nissan, causing the 59 year old motorcyclist to be ejected.

Both drivers were taken to Brightshores Hospital by Grey County EMS.  The driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries, while the motorcyclist suffered more serious injuries, and shortly thereafter was airlifted by Ornge to a larger facility where he remains in hospital.

The Nissan was operated by a 73 year old local Owen Sound man.  Both vehicles sustained significant damage. 

The Police want to thank the witnesses and bystanders who attended to assist those involved.  The investigation is continuing and charges under the Highway Traffic Act are pending.

Owen Sound Police Help Porch Pirate Continue Thefts – Name Withheld #Catch&Release #CrimeDoesPay

On Friday April 12, 2024 during the afternoon hours a package was delivered to the front porch of a west-side residence.  Within seven minutes of the delivery, the package was stolen and Owen Sound Police were called by the victim to investigate.

With the assistance of a residential security camera, police were able to identify a 39- year-old Owen Sound female as being the person responsible for the theft.  Police conducted a check of the area and were able to locate and arrest the female, who still had the stolen package in her possession.

The stolen items were returned to the victim and the accused was charged with Theft and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.  The accused is scheduled to appear in court in May.

Owen Sound Police have received reports of similar thefts of delivered packages in increasing numbers in what appears to be an emerging trend.  Some tips that may assist in preventing thefts in this manner include installing visible and or covert cameras, using a front porch lock box, requesting that packages require a signature at delivery and/or having packages delivered to the workplace if possible.

Anonymous Criminals Thriving In Owen Sound

On Sunday April 7, 2024 at 7:15 p.m. two individuals were assaulted by an associate at their east side residence.  After punching a female in the face, the accused left the area upon learning that police had been called.

Owen Sound Police Officers attended to investigate the situation and subsequently located the accused a short distance away.  The man was arrested for two counts of assault.  During a search, the man was found in possession of one ounce of Fentanyl which has an approximate street value of $6000.   Police also seized a smaller quantity of Psilocybin from him (‘Magic Mushrooms’).

Through further investigation, police determined that the man had been supplying Fentanyl to drug users in Owen Sound.

The 25-year-old man from Scarborough, remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing, charged with Trafficking Fentanyl, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Psilocybin and two counts of Assault.

Smash & Grab @ Weed Store – James FARR Arrested Again

On March 26, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m. a man used a rock to smash through the front bay window of a Cannabis Retail business in Owen Sound. The man entered the store and proceeded to steal property including I Pads. The man climbed back through the window and
fled from the area.

Owen Sound Police investigated, and with the assistance of video surveillance footage from the business, were able to identify the suspect based on several recent arrests of the same individual for previous property crimes. Just after 8:30 a.m. a patrolling officer located and arrested the suspect in the area of 16 th Street and 16 th Avenue East. The man proceeded to provide police with a fictitious identity. The man
was searched and found in possession of two stolen IPad’s from Cannabis store.

The accused, 29-year-old James FARR, of no fixed address, was charged with Break, Enter and Commit Theft, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Obstructing a Peace Officer. FARR was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.

Owen Sound Manslaughter: Police Endanger Community By Refusing To Identify Criminals In City

On March 5, 2024, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call seeking medical assistance in relation to a drug overdose, at an apartment on the lower west side of the city.

Grey County Paramedics arrived as did police, with the 37 year old Owen Sound male being transported to Brightshores Health Systems, where he was pronounced deceased. As a result, members of the Criminal Investigations Branch commenced an investigation which led to a Grey
County resident being arrested. The 27 year old male was charged with Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl and Manslaughter.

The male was remanded into custody with his next court appearance being later this month.

Missing Teen Found Deceased

On Saturday March 17, 2024 The Owen Sound Police Service continued their investigation into the whereabouts of a missing 16- year-old Owen Sound female. The assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was obtained.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. O.P.P. members located a deceased, teenaged female at the bottom of the Sydenham River approximately 100 feet west of the Jubilee Bridge in Owen Sound.

The death of this female is being investigated by the Owen Sound Police Service and the Office of the Chief Coroner: Ontario.

The Owen Sound Police Service is appreciative of the assistance of members of the community who shared information and participated in search efforts.

Owen Sound Police On Bicycle Chase Down Repeat Offender With BB Gun – Name Withheld By Police #Catch&Release

On Sunday March 10, 2024 just prior to 7:00 p.m. Owen Sound Police received a report of a suspicious man pointing a firearm at a person in the area of 13 th Street West and 4 th Avenue West in Owen Sound.

Officers attended the area and located the suspect who immediately attempted to flee on his decrepit mountain bike. Officers gave chase and the suspect soon encountered a series of tall wooden fences leaving him with little choice but to discard his bike and continue his escape by
jumping over the fences.

A veteran officer passed on the opportunity to scale the fences in pursuit of the suspect, instead electing to utilize the suspect’s newly abandoned bike to assist him in the chase. The officer rode the suspects bike several hundred feet, eventually catching and arrested him in the parking
lot of a nearby apartment building.

Upon arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a realistic looking BB pistol and a hunting knife which, the investigation determined, he had previously used to threaten someone.

The 22- year-old man, who was already on bail for an assault charge, was additionally charged with Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Breach of a Release Order.

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Drunk Driver Name Withheld By Owen Sound Police

On Sunday March 10, 2024 at 3:30 a.m. a single vehicle collision occurred just east of the intersection of 7 th Avenue East and 6 th Street East, Owen Sound. A Nissan XTERRA failed to negotiate a turn at this location and left the roadway, narrowly missing a traffic light pole and striking two large utility boxes. The vehicle severed a telephone pole’s guy wire and area
residents experienced temporary service outages.


The driver failed to remain at the scene and fled on foot. Officers of the Owen Sound Police Service attended and were able to identify and locate the driver at a residence in close proximity to the collision scene. Officers quickly determined that the driver was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and placed him under arrest.

The 35-year-old male driver from Owen Sound, was transported to the Police Station where he refused to comply with a legal requirement to provide samples of his breath for analysis.

The accused was charged with Impaired Driving, Refusing to Provide Breath Samples and Failing to remain at the scene of an accident. The involved vehicle was heavily damaged and was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days and the man’s driver’s license was automatically suspended for 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a requirement to attend court later in March.
