Stephen BUNCE – Drunk Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual with impaired operation related charges.

On August 15, 2024, at about 12:13 a.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP was proactively patrolling the area of Highway 11 in the City of Orillia and conducted a traffic stop having observed a motor vehicle unable to maintain its lane. The resulting investigation led the officer to determine that the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Stephen BUNCE, 40-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in September 2024. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Patrick MCGINLEY – Drinking & Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered an investigation where one individual was arrested and charged for impaired and forgery related offences. After the individual was located unconscious inside a vehicle outside of the Central Region Headquarters of the Ontario Provincial Police in the City of Orillia.

On August 10, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were alerted to an individual unconscious within a vehicle in the parking lot of the Central Region Headquarters. Officers located the individual within the vehicle and entered into a traffic investigation, where the individual was arrested and charged with impaired related offences, along with forgery related offences.  

As a result, Patrick MCGINLEY, 18-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Have care or control of motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Young driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Adult forgery

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on September 17, 2024.

Robert GONNEAU – Ditch Drunk Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male driver with impaired operation related charges.

On August 10, 2024, at about 3:00 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP responded to single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 southbound at Carlyon Line off-ramp. The vehicle involved was found to have exited the roadway and entered into the ditch.  Upon arriving on scene and speaking with the male driver police quickly determined he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Orillia Detachment.

As a result, Robert GONNEAU, 59-years-old, from Bracebridge has been charged with:

CC 320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

CC 320.14(1)(b) Adult Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

LLCA 42(1)(a) Adult Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in September 2024. His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Patrick MCGINELY – Impaired Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual with impaired operation.

On August 10, 2024, at about 11:30 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to OPP Central Region Headquarters after reports of an unconscious male parked in the lot. Upon arriving on scene, officers observed a male to be sleeping behind the wheel with several open alcohol containers throughout the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the detachment.

As a result, Patrick MCGINELY 18-year-old, from Etobicoke has been charged with:

·      CC 320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      CC 366(1) Adult Forgery

·      HTA 44.1(5) Adult Young driver – BAC above zero

·      HTA 44.1(3) Adult Novice driver – BAC above zero

·      LLCA 42(1)(a) Adult Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in September 2024. As a result of these charges, his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

5 More Impaired Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – Officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged five drivers with impaired driving related charges during five separate incidents.

Just before 3:00 a.m., on August 2, 2024 officers of the Orillia OPP were called to a report of a moto vehicle collision in the area of Marchmont Road in Severn Township. Police arrived at scene, were able to locate the driver who was attempting to evade police. Upon speaking with the male, officers noted numerous signs of being intoxicated.

As a result, Michael SNIDER, 30-year-old of Severn Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CCC

Just after 7:00 p.m., on August 3, 2024, officers of the Orillia OPP responded to reports of a traffic complaint. Officers located the motor vehicle in the area of Highway 12 and Couchiching Point Road in the City of Orillia. The driver was showing signs of being intoxicated.

As a result, Michael WATSON, 48-year-old of the City of Guelph has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CCC
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CCC

At 3:30 p.m., on August 4, 2024, officers of the Orillia OPP responded to reports of a traffic complaint. Officers located the motor vehicle in the area od Diana Drive in the City of Orillia. Officers spoke with the male driver and found he was showing signs of being intoxicated.

As a result, Shawn SMITH, 52-year-old of the City of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CCC
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CCC
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to section 42 (1)(a) of the Liquor Licence and Control Act

At 8:00p.m., on August 5, 2024 officers of the Orillia OPP responded to reports of a traffic complaint. Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of Olive Dr in Oro-Medonte Township. Upon speaking with the driver, signs of being intoxicated were noted.

As a result, Todd SIMPSON, 38-year-old of Oro-Medonte Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CCC
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CCC

At 1:00 a.m., on August 8, 2024, officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program in the City of Orillia. A driver approached the program and displayed signs of being intoxicated.

As a result, Timothy FINLEY 41-year-old of Fenelon Falls Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CCC
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CCC

The accused parties are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in August 2024. Their driver’s licences were suspended for 90 days, and vehicles were impounded for a period of 7 days.

Home Invasion & Abduction: One Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his involvement in the kidnapping of Elnaz HAJTAMIRI has been apprehended on an unrelated warrant in the United States.

On August 5, 2024, Deshawn DAVIS was apprehended in Redway, California, by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and deputy U.S. marshals in the Northern District of California. DAVIS had been added to the Bolo Program’s Canada’s 25 Most Wanted and the USMS’ 15 Most Wanted Fugitive lists this year.

On January 12, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an abduction from a residence on Trailwood Place in Wasaga Beach. The suspects, described as three black males dressed in police gear, but not actual police uniforms, claimed to be there to arrest the victim. When the homeowner became suspicious and tried to call 9-1-1, he was overpowered and the victim was abducted. The suspects fled in a vehicle described as a white sport utility vehicle (SUV), believed to be a Lexus RX. Elnaz has not been seen since the abduction.

The victim, 37-year-old at the time, Elnaz HAJTAMIRI (also goes by the surname TAMIRI), is described as female, 160 cm (5’3″) tall, slim build, with shoulder-length black hair. Photos of Elnaz are available at opp.ca/news/#/mediakit.

Investigators will continue to collaborate with law enforcement in the United States to further the investigation into the kidnapping of Elnaz.

Gurpreet Singh DHALIWAL – Vehicle Theft

(ORILLIA, ON) – On Sunday July 28, 2024, the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest in relation to a theft of a vehicle in the City of Orillia.

On July 28, 2024, at approximately 12:00 pm Orillia OPP members were dispatched to a Murphy Rd business after reports of an unlocked motor vehicle being stolen.

Police attended the area within minutes after receiving the call and patrolled the area in efforts to locate the stolen vehicle. Shortly after police received information that a black pick-up truck was located on Highway 11 S/B and Line 15, police attended and confirmed it was the stolen vehicle in question. The suspect was not with the vehicle.

With assistance from Central Region Canine (K9), Emergency Response Team (ERT) the male suspect within the immediate area of the stolen vehicle.

Police arrested and charged 39 year old Gurpreet Singh DHALIWAL of Brampton with:

•           Theft of Motor Vehicle Contrary to Section 333.1 of the Criminal Code.

•           Adult Obstruct Peace Officer Contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Christopher LEDUC – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male driver after conducting a traffic stop.

On July 25, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., officers of the Orillia OPP were on patrol in the area of Coldwater Rd and Emily St. in the City of Orillia when a motor vehicle was observed with its high beams on approaching police. As a result, police conducted a traffic stop observing the vehicle hit the right-side curb. Through investigation and speaking with the male driver, police determined the driver was impaired and, on a suspension, not to drive for the last 21 years.

As a result, Christopher LEDUC 46-year-old, of Victoria Harbour has been charged with:

  • ·      Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • ·      Adult Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • ·      Adult Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

Paul MOODY – Drunk Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid Criminal charges after responding to a traffic complaint from a community member near Hwy 12 and Division Rd in the Township of Oro-Medonte. Police received information that a White Ford 150 was swerving all over the road, hitting a reflector signs in the process. After patrolling the area police were able to locate a truck matching that description at Prices Corner Gas Bar. Officers entered into an impaired driving investigation placing a male driver under arrest.

Paul MOODY, 38-year-old of New Tecumseth, ON was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Dangerous Operation

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 14-days.

Fatal ATV Incident

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal all-terrain vehicle (ATV) incident that occurred overnight in the Township of Ramara.

On July 22, 2024, just before 8:00 a.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Ramara Fire, were dispatched to Concession Road A, Ramara Township for a report of an individual next to an all-terrain vehicle located on private property. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a 31-year-old male of Ramara Township.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged four individuals over the weekend with Impaired driving related offences.  

Between July 19, 2024, and July 22, 2024, officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were dispatched to multiple traffic complaints and conducted regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia and surrounding townships. Members of the community called the provinces emergency service numbers and as a result, seventeen charges were laid over the weekend by responding officers. A total of four drivers were arrested and charged. Four vehicles were impounded, and the drivers’ licenses were suspended.

Motorists are asked to prioritize safety on our roads by slowing down, driving safely, cautiously, and never drive impaired.

As a result, Sebastian TUFFORD; 18-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Failure or refusal to comply with probation order

As a result, Naman KHATRI; 20-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Public Mischief
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Driving while under suspension
  • G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

As a result, Taylor Douglas EDWARDS; 26-year-old, from St. Catharines has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired

As a result, Wesley Peter Charles TUZYK; 33-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

FOXTON – Drunk Driving, Hit & Run

(ORILLIA, ON) – Officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a male party following an early morning fail to remain collision with impaired and highway traffic act offences.

At 6:00 a.m., on July 18, 2024, Orillia OPP responded to a call for a motor vehicle striking a light post in the area of Memorial Ave and Dunedin St in the City of Orillia. Police were advised the vehicle had sustained extensive damage and did not remain at the scene.

With assistance from the community, and police investigation, police were able to locate the involved vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted numerous signs of being impaired.

As a result of this investigation, Donald FOXTON, 72-year-old of the City of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to remain contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date August 2024. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days.

Corey GIBSON – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two individuals. One investigation was conducted after a concerned citizen alerted police to an impaired driver and the second investigation was conducted through regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia.

On July 16, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were alerted by a concerned citizen to an individual that had been drinking and was attempting to drive a vehicle in an Orillia parking lot. Officers located the individual within the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, where they were arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Adam POULTON; 40-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

Later that same day at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP while conducting regular patrols observed a commercial vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were led into an impaired driving investigation. One individual was arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Corey GIBSON; 37-year-old, from North Bay has been subsequently charged with:

  • Adult operation while impaired

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on August 27, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized a large quantity of drugs and weapons.

On July 6, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., officers of Orillia OPP were on general patrol on Barrie Road, in the City of Orillia. Officers observed a motor vehicle was travelling in a manner consistent with driving impaired, therefore a traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking with the occupants, the officer noticed a cannabis joint in the motor vehicle, therefore the occupants were detained for further investigation. During the initial investigation, police located:

–      Police pepper spray

–      A prohibited knife

–      A conductive energy weapon.

–      Canadian Currency

Through investigation, officers formed grounds the occupants were trafficking in illegal substances. The motor vehicle was seized, and a warrant was obtained to search the vehicle fully.

The warrant was executed, and the following was seized by police:

–      A loaded Smith and Wesson revolver handgun

–      164.5 grams of fentanyl

–      6.9 grams of cocaine

–      37 hydromorphone

–      1 oxycodone

As a result of this investigation, Irshad AHMED, 41-year-old of the City of Barrie has been charged with:

–      Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) if the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) x2

–      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC

–      Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm section 91(1) CC

–      Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm section 94 CC.

–      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC

–      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).

–      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 section 354(1)(a)

–      Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose section 88 CC

–      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm section 92(1)

–      Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-Opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)

–      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC

–      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachments Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug trafficking related charges and seized a quantity of drugs.

Over the last few months, Orillia CSCU began investigating individuals who were allegedly trafficking drugs in the City of Orillia to a specific address on Barrie Rd and Dunlop St. Utilizing investigative techniques police were able to gather evidence further advancing their investigation. On June 21, 2024 – satisfied with the information gathered the Orillia CSCU proceeded to the next steps in their investigation. With the assistance of Orillia OPP frontline members a search warrant was executed at an address on Barrie Rd. in the City of Orillia and four individuals were arrested and charged with several Drug related charges.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

1 functioning digital scale.

Approximately 3 grams methamphetamine.

48 “PGB” capsules.

9.5 grams cocaine.

Cutting agents.

1 functioning police radio scanner.

975.00 in Canadian Currency.

Sherrylynn HART, 54 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  •      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in August 2024.

Michael HART-PAYNE, 29 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in August 2024.

Tyler JOHNSTON, 18 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Adult Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Adult Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in August 2024.

Donald KINGSBURY, 60 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
