Drug Bust – MCCALLUM & PICHETTE

(RENFREW, ON) – Two people are facing numerous drug trafficking charges in Arnprior.

As part of an ongoing investigation, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and members of the Renfrew Detachment conducted a traffic stop in Arnprior on December 13, 2024. Two people were arrested without incident.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed nearly 50 grams of suspected cocaine, more than 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, over 400 suspected methamphetamine tablets, over 17 grams of suspected crack cocaine, more than 20 capsules of amphetamine salts, four cell phones, a replica firearm, items typically associated with drug trafficking and almost $2900 in cash.

Brandon MCCALLUM, age 42, and Natasha PICHETTE, age 34, both from Arnprior, are charged with:

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – six counts

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

Both accused were released from custody following bail hearings. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 29, 2025.

SOBEY Arrested For Impaired Driving

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – A routine traffic stop for expired validation ended with criminal charges for an impaired driver.  

On December 15, 2024, at approximately 1:00 am, a member of the Fort Frances Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had expired validation.  

Investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and an approved screening device test was administered. The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to the Fort Frances Detachment where additional breath testing was completed by way of demand.     

Matthew SOBEY, 32-years-old, from Fort Frances is charged criminally with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug, and one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 milligrams and over. The accused was also charged with having care or control with cannabis readily available, driving without a licence, having no currently validated permit, and failing to produce insurance.  

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on January 27, 2025, to answer to the criminal charges.

WALLICK Was Arrested

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – A single vehicle rollover collision resulted in criminal charges for an impaired driver.  

On December 11, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am, the Atikokan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle roll-over collision on Highway 11 approximately 10 km east of Atikokan.  

Investigation determined that alcohol was a factor in the collision and an approved screening device test was administered. The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to the Atikokan Detachment where additional breath testing was completed by way of demand.     

Michael WALLICK, 47-years-old, from Thunder Bay is charged criminally with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug and one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 milligrams and over.

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on January 30, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Shawn MILLS – Drunk Driving

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police charged a driver with impaired driving offences after responding to an unwanted person.

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person at a business on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The individual had driven away prior to police arriving but was later located by police and arrested for impaired driving, the driver was then transported back to the OPP detachment for further testing.

Shawn MILLS, 43 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Shawn CAMPBELL – Drunk Driving

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – One person was arrested and charged with impaired driving after Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle found in the ditch in Temiskaming Shores.

On December 15, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., OPP, received information of a vehicle in the ditch on Drive In Theatre Road. Further information indicated a lone male was walking away from the vehicle. OPP arrived moments later and arrested the driver for impaired operation. The driver was then transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

Shawn CAMPBELL, 47 years-of-age, from New Liskeard, was charged with:

  •  Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired -blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on January 7, 2025.

3 Arrested In Cocaine Bust

(DRYDEN, ON) – A joint investigation led by the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Sioux Lookout OPP CSCU with the assistance from members of the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team, Northwest Region Canine Unit, and the Dryden OPP detachment has led to charges being laid against multiple individuals.

On December 15, 2024, just after 11:30 p.m., a search warrant was executed on a residence on Wellington Street in Zealand Township (Wabigoon). The investigation resulted in the arrest of several individuals and the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, including cocaine, crack cocaine, hydromorphone, and oxycodone, as well as further evidence of drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, Mohamed ELMI, 27-years-old of Ottawa, has been arrested and charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs (two counts)

Mohamed JEMMIE, 24-years-old of Ottawa, has been arrested and charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine  
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs (two counts)

William KENNY, 56-years-old of Wabigoon, has been arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Dryden on December 17, 2024.

Cocaine Bust – Kristopher SANCHEZ Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop that ended with an Unknown substance being seized and charges laid.

On December 16, 2024, at 10:46 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act Offence (H.T.A.), through investigation the driver was emitting an odour of alcohol, and an open alcoholic beverage could be seen in the vehicle. After conducting a Approved Screening Device (ASD) Test, the driver had provided a result of 7milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood. A search was conducted of the vehicle, under the authorities given to police officers in the Liquor Licence Control Act s.42(2). Numerous empty alcoholic beverages were located inside the vehicle as well as a bag of a unknown white powdery substance. A total of 1.4g of white powdery substance was seized, including 4 pipes with drug residue and 2 other bags with suspected drug residue.

The driver was subsequently arrested for Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences.

Kristopher SANCHEZ, a 47-year-old of Norland, was charged with:

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

–      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice and a Part III ticket and will appear later in court.

Tyler PILON – Impaired Operation

(SUDBURY, ON) – After police received multiple traffic complaints, one person has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On December 15, 2024, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received multiple traffic complaints about a vehicle, driving through red lights and passing vehicles on the shoulder on Highway 17, Sudbury.

The vehicle was located, and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. As a result of the investigation, Tyler PILON, 28 years-of-age, from Markstay-Warren, was charged with, operation while impaired – drugs and dangerous operation.

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2025, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Mother & Child Escape Fire

(ALLISTON, ON) – On December 16, shortly before 1:30 p.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, New Tecumseth Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics responded to a structure fire.

OPP Nottawasaga Detachment and New Tecumseth Fire Department responded to a report of large house fire at a residence on Previn Court in the Town of New Tecumseth. Upon arrival the home was visibly engulfed in smoke. A mother and a small child were able to safely evacuate the home prior to officers’ arrival with no injuries due to working fire alarms in the home.

The fire did not spread to the near by residences and was put out several hours later. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but appeared to have come from the children’s game room in the basement, it is not considered to be suspicious.

The roadway near the residence was temporarily closed until the fire was put out, and re-opened at 6:00 p.m. The family will be staying with relatives for the holidays.

Fabian RODNEY – Drunk Driving

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – Driver facing charges after traffic complaint on Highway 401 Westbound.

On December 15, 2024, at 5:00 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the Westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Thames Centre, for the report of a possible impaired driver.

The vehicle was located stopped on the centre median shoulder.

As a result, Fabian RODNEY, a 39-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on February 27, 2025.

31 Year Old From Morris-Turnberry Arrested For Domestic Mischief

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – On December 12th, 2024, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a matter involving intimate partners in the Township of Morris-Turnberry.

As a result of the investigation, OPP learned that the involved suspect had allegedly committed a criminal act against their partner.

A 31-year-old individual from Morris-Turnberry has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following offence:

–      Mischief – Domestic.

The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court date scheduled for the Goderich Ontario Court of Justice on January 13, 2025.

2 Arrested After Fleeing Police – Names Released

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Two people have been arrested and charged after they fled from police.

On December 14, 2024, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a possible impaired driver, in a parked vehicle at a business on Front Street, West Nipissing.

When police attended the parking vehicle, the vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was later located in a ditch, abandoned. A search of the area located the two occupants from the vehicle, who were arrested.

A search of the abandoned vehicle, led to the seizure of a prohibited edged weapon and drugs suspected to be cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, the driver Natacha YOUNG, 39 years-of-age, from Central Frontenac, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Fail to stop for police

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The passenger, Cory MITCHELL, 31 years-of-age, from Carleton Place, was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with Probation Order – four counts
  • Unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a schedule I substance

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 2, 2025, in North Bay.

RIDE Results

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2024 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 21, 2024, and will continue until January 1, 2025. During the third week of the campaign from December 5 to December 11, 2024, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 12 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.

During the RIDE checks drivers were found to be in full compliance with the law and no impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as a result of the RIDE campaign.

Despite the compliance at the RIDE checks, UOV OPP officers charged five drivers with impaired driving-related offences during the week.

On December 5, 2024, at approximately 3:45 a.m., members of the UOV OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 60 in Algonquin Park after a car struck a guard rail. The driver, who was the lone occupant, was not seriously injured and taken to hospital by paramedics for assessment. During the investigation a quantity of suspected fentanyl was seized by police. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.  

As a result of this incident 29-year-old Michael ASHAWASEGA of Pickerel, Ontario has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until their next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 18, 2024. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. 

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m. members of the UOV OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Beladair Road in Laurentian Hills after an SUV left the roadway and struck trees. The driver and two passengers were not injured. A quantity of cannabis and unmarked cigarettes were seized by police. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.  

As a result of this incident a 15-year-old young person from Cornwall, Ontario has been charged with the following CC, HTA, Tobacco Tax Act (TTA), Cannabis Control Act (CCA) and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
  • Person under 19 years – possess cannabis
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Careless driving

The accused was released to a family member and will appear in Youth Court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.  The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. 

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m. members of the UOV OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Kartuzy Road in Madawaska Valley Township after a passenger vehicle left the roadway and struck guardrails and a tree. The driver was the lone occupant and was not injured. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of this incident 50-year-old Jakub KULINSKI of Oakville, Ontario has been charged with the following CC offence:

·          Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2025. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. 

On December 10, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the UOV OPP responded to a vehicle stuck in the ditch on Doran Road in Petawawa. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the incident 52-year-old Kirk FLOOD of Milton, Ontario has been charged with the following CC offence:

·          Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 7, 2025. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. 

On December 11, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the UOV OPP responded after a possible impaired driver was reported at the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN). Police located the vehicle and driver a short time later. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.   

As a result of this incident 36-year-old Mary Beth COMMANDA of AOPFN has been charged with the following CC offences:

·          Operation while impaired – alcohol

·          Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2025. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

Habitual Impaired Driver Charged AGAIN! – Name Released

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – A person was arrested and charged again after another traffic complaint reported in Elliot Lake.

On September 28, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous complaints on Paris Drive about a female driving erratically in a small grey Sport-Utility Vehicle (SUV). The complainants also reported that the girl driving looked to be high on drugs and almost hit them. Police later located the SUV at a known residence on Tokyo Crescent and the female driver was subsequently arrested. 

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the OPP received a call from a retail store on Hillside Drive South regarding a female driver who was incoherent and impaired. Police later located the small grey SUV on Spine Road. The female driver provided a false name to police and had cannabis readily available. She was subsequently arrested again and vehicle was towed and impounded.

Myra SOUTHWIND, 47-years-old, from Serpent River First Nation was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Drugs
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Having care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 13, 2025.

The OPP would like to remind the motoring public to drive sober; this includes drug consumption as well. Impairment by drugs is a crime under the Criminal Code and drivers are subject to the same penalties as those who are charged with driving while impaired by alcohol.  A charge of impairment by drugs involves all drugs, be it prescription, over-the-counter and those that are illegal.

Emily HOWARTH Was Arrested

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual after a motor vehicle collision.  

On December 11, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m. members of the Dryden OPP Detachment responded to a motor vehicle collision on Memorial Avenue in the City of Dryden.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that one of the drivers involved in the collision had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.

Emily HOWARTH, 21-years-old, of Dryden, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·         Dangerous operation

·         Mischief – renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or ineffective

·         Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·         Mischief Over $5000

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden January 20, 2025.
