(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to and are investigating a number of incidents reported over the weekend.
On February 1, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., OPP received a report of a suspicious vehicle which was stationary near a residence on County Road 35 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The passenger vehicle was unknown to the caller and believed to have two occupants inside.
EMS were also dispatched to the location but were not required by the officers attending the location.
OPP spoke with both occupants and observed suspected drugs on one of the persons. The drugs were seized, and the individual was placed under arrest. The approximate street value of the suspected Cocaine is around $120.
As a result, Tyler TRAYNOR (age 30) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine.
The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
On April 3, 2024, police received a complaint regarding an individual who was paid to complete repairs at a residence on Stoneridge Road in the Township of Hamilton. The work was not undertaken, and officers began a fraud investigation.
A person sought in connection with the incident was identified and a warrant was issued for their arrest. The person was arrested by a local municipal police service on February 3, 2025, and custody was transferred to the OPP.
As a result, Gary CLARKSON (age 51), from Dresden, has been charged with:
– Fraud under $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
On February 3, 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m., a member of the public reported a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Dale Road and Sylvan Glen Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to the incident where a passenger vehicle collided with a ditch and the driver sustained minor injuries.
OPP spoke with the driver and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made of which was complied with by providing a sample of breath. With the result, the accused was taken into custody and transported to a local police station for further tests.
Richard MCIVOR (age 58) from the Township of Hamilton, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On February 3, 2025, shortly after 8:00 p.m., police and EMS responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a Fire Department truck and a tractor trailer on Highway 401 eastbound in the Township of Hamilton. As a result of the collision, one member from the fire crew was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Fire Department vehicle was pulled over to assist with a separate and unconnected incident where a vehicle ended up in the ditch. A tractor trailer then collided with the stationary fire truck, continued on and failed to remain at the scene.
Northumberland OPP are seeking information regarding identifying the tractor trailer which failed to remain at the scene. If anyone has video/dash cam footage, or has information which could assist this information, please contact 1-888-310-1122 Ref: E250140731.
This incident highlights the critical need for drivers to remain alert and give emergency vehicles the space they need to operate safely at collision scenes. Failing to do so not only endangers first responders but also compromises their ability to assist those in need. Police urge all motorists to slow down, move over, and exercise caution when approaching emergency scenes to prevent incidents like this from happening.
