Shots Fired – Giles Akiwenzie Arrested

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – A 59-year-old individual from Neyaashiinigmiing has been charged following a late-night police response to a report of gunshots in the Northern Bruce Peninsula.

On November 11, 2025, at approximately 11:56 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of suspected gunfire and a suspicious vehicle in the area of Cape Chin South Road, Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. A firearm was located inside the vehicle..

Giles Akiwenzie, 59-years-old, of Neyaashiinigmiing, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm – Criminal Code
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available – Liquor Licence and Control Act

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on December 11, 2025.

74 Year Old Careless Driver Causes Power Outage

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 29, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 6, north of Hidden Valley Road in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Upon arrival, officers located a pickup truck that had left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The driver who was the lone occupant of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

A 74-year-old resident of Northern Bruce Peninsula has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Due to the impact, hydro crews were required to attend the scene to shut off power and conduct necessary repairs to the damaged utility infrastructure.

The Grey Bruce OPP reminds all motorists to drive with care and attention at all times to ensure the safety of all road users.

Scott BLIGHT – Drunk Driving

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – An individual from North Bruce Peninsula is facing impaired driving-related charges stemming from a single motor vehicle collision that had occurred on Stokes Bay Road, in the Township of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

On October 13, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Stokes Bay Road, in the Township of Northern Bruce Peninsula. The driver had swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of the vehicle, ending up striking a telephone pole.

The driver was not injured.

Scott BLIGHT, 58-years-old, of Northern Bruce Peninsula, is charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol
  • Operation while Impaired – 80 plus

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 6, 2025.

Police Finally Recover Stolen Trailer – Daniel HAFENBRACK Arrested & Released

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual following the recovery of a stolen camper trailer in Northern Bruce Peninsula.

In May 2025, Grey Bruce OPP received a report regarding a stolen 2022 Cherokee Wolfpup 16′ camper trailer, valued at approximately $30,000. The trailer had been reported missing between September and October 2024.

Following an investigation led by the Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), police located the trailer on a property situated on North Shore Road in Northern Bruce Peninsula.

On September 2, 2025, members of the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), West Region Canine Unit, Grey Bruce CSCU, and Grey Bruce Major Crime Unit (MCU) executed a search warrant at the location. One individual was arrested without incident and the trailer was recovered.

Daniel HAFENBRACK, 49-years-old, of Northern Bruce Peninsula, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 Criminal Code

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 2, 2025.

Gloria CHALKLEY – Impaired Driving

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On January 25, 2025, at approximately 11:53 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank along Highway 6, Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

During the investigation, police detected signs of impairment from the driver. They were placed under arrested and transported for further testing.

Gloria CHALKLEY, 63-years-old, of Northern Bruce Peninsula, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired, CC 320.14(1)(b)

The accused is set to appear in the Owen Sound Court of Justice on February 20, 2025.

Bryton Menard Arrested Following Hit & Run

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – One individual is facing charges after they struck a mailbox before their vehicle came to rest in the ditch on Highway 6 in Northern Bruce Peninsula.

On June 22, 2024, at 8:31 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that a vehicle just struck a mailbox and has driven across the property of a residence. Police located a damaged vehicle down the road from the damaged mailbox. As police were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment.

Bryton Menard, 28-years-old of Georgian Bluffs was charged with the following offences:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 1, 2024.
