Drug & Copper Bust – Names Released

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed search warrants at four locations, including two rural farm properties and a scrap yard located in the northwest part of Dufferin County. During the operation, police seized a quantity of stolen bell copper wire, stolen tools, stolen vehicles, drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine, firearms, and numerous other items. Six individuals were arrested in connection with the incident.

Throughout 2025, copper thefts have been on an upward trend in Dufferin County. The Dufferin OPP initiated an investigation following numerous reported thefts and complaints from the public. On November 19, 2025, the Dufferin OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Caledon CSCU, Grey Bruce CSCU, Nottawasaga CSCU, and Dufferin A and D Platoon, executed the search warrants. The operation resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of the following items:

Samiullah KHAN, 40-year-old male, from Melancthon has been charged with:

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada X 2

•      Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic)

•      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

Gordon WINSLOW, 33-year-old male, from Melancthon has been charged with:

•      Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic)

•      Mischief Endangering Life

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada X 5

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

Tracey JOHNSTON, 50-year-old male, from Melancthon has been charged with:

•      Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic)

•      Mischief Endangering Life

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada X 5

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

Chelsea MONCKTON, 33-year-old male, from Melancthon has been charged with:

•      Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic)

•      Mischief Endangering Life

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada X 5

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

Brandy WISEBROD, 46-year-old male, from Dundalk has been charged with:

•      Trafficking in property obtained by crime

•      Mischief Endangering Life

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada

Curtis WHITTEN, 33-year-old male, from Melancthon has been charged with:

•      Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic)

•      Mischief Endangering Life

•      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada X 5

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

The following items were seized during the investigation:

  • Large quantity of stolen Bell copper wire
  • 2021 Ram 1500 (previously stolen; approx. value $45,000)
  • 2018 Chevrolet Silverado (previously stolen; approx. value $20,000)
  • Terex skid steer (previously stolen; approx. value $45,000)
  • Two large tandem-axle utility trailers (previously stolen; value approx. $25,000)
  • Large quantity of stolen power tools (approx. value $10,000)
  • 359 grams of methamphetamine (approx. value $23,000)
  • Quantity of cocaine
  • 11 long guns
  • 6 handguns
  • 3 replica firearms with removed serial numbers
  • 1 prohibited device (magazine)
  • Large assortment of ammunition

Removing and stealing copper wire is not only illegal, but it can severely impact people’s lives. Copper wire theft can disrupt essential communication services, including phone lines, which may prevent residents from being able to call 911 in an emergency. These actions put entire communities at risk and can cause significant safety concerns, delays in emergency response, and costly repairs, costs that ultimately impact customers through higher service provider bills.

Manpreet CHADHA – Drunk Driving

(MELANCTHON, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) work extremely hard to keep the roads safe in Dufferin County. Officers have removed and charged a driver with impaired operation related offences as the result of a traffic complaint.

On July 27, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint in the area of County Road 124 in the Township of Melancthon. Officers located the vehicle and were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Manpreet CHADHA, 47-year-old male, from North York has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Dufferin OPP continues to conduct traffic enforcement daily as drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs and who drive at excessive speeds continue to pose a threat to Ontario roads. We are committed to the safety of our community.

Cocaine & Weapons Bust -LAVIEILLE & RETES Arrested

(MELANCTHON, ON) – Officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized a quantity of drugs and charged two individuals as a result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Town of Shelburne.

On March 1, 2024, members of the Dufferin Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), along with Dufferin uniform members and Offender Management and Apprehension Program (OMAP) executed a search warrant at a home on Third Line in Melancthon. The search warrant resulted in the arrest of two individuals who are facing multiple charges. In addition, the officers seized a quantity of drugs.  

Brayden LAVIEILLE, 28-year-old from Dundalk has been charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

Joshua RETES, 19-year-old of no fixed address

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime – under $5000

The following property was seized:

·      Cocaine – 96 Grams

·      Dilaudid pills

·      Drug paraphernalia

·      Cash – $2855 Canadian

·      Air Soft Guns

·      22 Calibre ammunition

·      12 Gauge shot gun shells

·      Cellular phones – (two)

Fatal Hwy 10 Collision

(MELANCTHON, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Dufferin County EMS, and Fire Services attended a serious two vehicle collision in the Township of Melancthon.

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, just after 11:30 a.m., officers attended Highway 10 and County Road 17 in Melancthon Township for the report of a serious collision involving two vehicles. The collision resulted in one fatality, along with one person transported to a Toronto area trauma centre.

Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 32 -year-old, female from Grand Valley was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

A 61-year-old male was air-lifted by Ornge to a Toronto area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 10 will remain closed for several hours while the Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) team of the OPP investigates. The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Dufferin OPP 1-888-310-1122.
