Meaford Murder Update: Second Person Charged

(MEAFORD, ON) – A second person has been charged in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation in Meaford.

On May 3, 2020, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a missing person report for 25-year-old Emerson SPRUNG, who was last seen leaving his family residence in Meaford. His remains were located on May 6, 2020.

On July 25, 2024, as a result of the ongoing investigation by the Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, a second person was charged.

Laurel CAMPBELL, age 32 of Meaford, has been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder, contrary to section 240 of the Criminal Code.

The accused has been held for a bail hearing and was released. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 19, 2024.

More Spousal Abuse In Meaford #WaitInTheTruck

(MEAFORD, ON) – On July 21, 2024, at 3:27 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP responded to an address in Meaford and initiated an intimate partner violence investigation. Police attended and determined that the suspect threatened to kill their partner and a child in the residence.

A 37-year-old from Meaford was charged with:

·      Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm – spousal

·      Uttering threats

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim.

Two From Meaford Arrested

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male and female with theft related charges from Meaford, Grey County.

On March 16, 2024, members of the Huronia West Detachment responded to a report of at theft that occurred in Clearview Township, where a male and female had rented an Air BnB and stole a large amount of furniture and appliances.

Members from Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted further investigation which led to a storage locker in the Collingwood area that had been rented by the accused. A search warrant was authored and executed at the storage facility where some of the stolen property was located.

Christopher BIKKER, 43-year-old of Meaford, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Theft Over $5000

·        Possession of Property Over $5000

Nicole SWANN, 36-year-old of Meaford, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Theft Over $5000

·        Possession of Property Over $5000

Scott Weiler Was Arrested Again

(MEAFORD, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating three break and enters and one theft in the Municipality of Meaford. 

Between June 23, 2024, and June 24, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP investigated a series of five break and enters on Albert Street, Parker Street and Birchwood Court. Thanks to the public the individual was identified.

On June 27, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP located and arrested Scott Weiler, 36-years-old of Meaford. Weiler was charged with the following:

·      Mischief Under $5000

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Do You Recognize This Theft Suspect

(MEAFORD, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating three break and enters and one theft in the Municipality of Meaford. The OPP have received video footage of a person of interest. The OPP is asking the public for assistance in identifying this individual. (photo attached)

On June 23, 2024, at 8:31 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP were dispatched to a break and enter on Albert Street between Thompson Street and Victor Street in the Municipality of Meaford. It is believed that the break and enter occurred on this date between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Approximately $300 in camping supplies was taken.

On June 24, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP received three separate calls for break and enters in Meaford. 

At 9:09 a.m. a resident on Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report that an individual stole a bicycle from their shed. The bicycle was valued at $200. The caller has video surveillance but did not capture the suspect well. It appeared that the suspect attended the residence on June 23, 2024, at midnight (going into June 24, 2024).

At 10:12 a.m., a resident on Birchwood Court in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report a few bicycles stolen from their property. 

At 12:15 a.m., a resident on Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report a break and enter. 

The last two occurrences are still in the early stages of investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police are asking residents in the areas of:

·      Albert Street between Thompson Street and Victor Street in the Municipality of Meaford to check their video surveillance on June 23, 2024, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

·      Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford to check their video surveillance on June 23, 2024, at midnight (going into June 24, 2024).

·      Birchwood Court before June 24, 2024, at 10:12 a.m.

2 Arrested In Meaford – Names Released

(MEAFORD, ON) – Two individuals are facing charges after the police received complaints of trespassers on their property.

On June 23, 2024, at 3:56 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of two individuals trespassing on someone’s property and that one individual was still on the property and the other left on foot. Police located the individual on foot and the individual at the residence. 

John Lawrence, 57-years-old of Meaford was charged with, theft under $5000.

Scott Weiler, 36-years-old of Meaford was charged with, theft under $5000 and possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine.

The accused parties are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on July 25, 2024.

Death In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 27, 2024, at 11:08 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible drowning in the Meaford harbour.

Emergency responders pulled an individual from the water who was unresponsive. An 81-year-old resident of Meaford was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation, there is no concern for public safety at this time.

Travis Sloane Arrested Again – Stolen Vehicle Recovered

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 22, 2024, at 6:27 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report that a vehicle was stolen from a business on Stewart Street in Meaford.

Officers attended and obtained video footage from a business in the area. The Grey Bruce OPP conducted patrols for the vehicle and located the vehicle driving in Meaford and conducted a traffic stop.

Police have arrested and charged 29-year-old Travis Sloane of Owen Sound with to following offences:

·      Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

·      Possession break in instruments

·      Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle

·      Driving while under suspension

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Theft In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 14, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call that there was a shoplifting incident in Meaford.

Police spoke with the victim who advised that on April 13, 2024, 9:59 p.m., an individual entered a business on Sykes Street in Meaford and took some energy drinks then proceeded to leave the store with no attempt to pay.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual.

Officer Assaulted By Repeat Offender In Meaford – Details Released

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 6, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call that an assault occurred at a property on Highway 6&10 in the Municipality of Meaford.

Police attended and learned that the caller located an individual trespassing on his property. When the caller approached the individual, the caller was stuck with a golf club. The individual proceeded to strike and damage the caller’s side by side. As the police were attempting to gain control of the individual, the individual resisted arrest and uttered death threats towards the caller and police.

As a result, Dustin Mills, 50-years-of age was charged with:

·      Assault with a weapon

·      Mischief under $5000 (three counts)

·      Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

·      Resist peace officer

·      Uttering threats cause death or bodily hard (2 counts)

·      Fail to comply with release order (2 counts)

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Do You Recognize This Theft Suspect

(MEAFORD, ON) – On March 21, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call that an individual purchased items using a stolen bank card.

Police spoke with the victim who advised that she believed her wallet was stolen sometime on March 20, 2024, and she noticed it missing March 21, 2024. Through investigation, officers determined that the bank card was used at a business in Meaford on March 20, 2024.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual in the photo.

$300,000 Meaford Drug Bust – Names Released

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – Two individuals were charged following an investigation into drug trafficking and the execution of a search warrant at a residence by the Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

On March 27, 2024, at 5:00 am, members of Grey Bruce CSCU with assistance of the Huron-Perth CSCU, Wellington CSCU as well as members of the Tactics & Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a property on Concession Road 2 North in the Municipality of Meaford.

During the search officers discovered and seized a quantity of cocaine, ketamine, crack cocaine, along with Canadian currency, firearms, and drug paraphernalia. The value of the seized controlled substance is estimated to be $300,000.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 59-year-old Ian Harker of the Municipality of Meaford with:

  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Meth
  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Ketamine
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (four counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (three counts)
  • Breach of Firearms Regulation – Store Firearm or Ammunition (three counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with

Charged with the following alleged offences is 45-year-old Amanda Armitage of the Municipality of Meaford with:

  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Meth
  • Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Ketamine
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (four counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (three counts)
  • Breach of Firearms Regulation – Store Firearm or Ammunition (three counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with

The accused parties were held pending a bail hearing.

Break & Enter – Suspects At Large

(MEAFORD, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking the publics assistance in locating video surveillance of a break and enter.

On March 23, 2024, at 2:23 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a break and enter from a business on Susan Street in the Municipality of Meaford. Sometime between March 182024, and March 23, 2024, unknown individual(s) broke into a business and removed a Tohatsu MFS 9.8 boat motor.

38 Year Old From Meaford Arrested – Details Released

(MEAFORD, ON) – A local driver is facing impaired driving charge after the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on a vehicle in the Municipality of Meaford.

On March 20, 2024, at 5:39 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP received a call for service regarding a traffic complaint of vehicle being driven recklessly around the Municipality of Meaford. Officers located the vehicle on Nelson Street East in Meaford and conducted a traffic stop. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician.

Steven Bates, 38-years-old of the Municipality of Meaford was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 11, 2024.
