Chiragkumar PATEL – Impaired Driving

(MARKDALE, ON) – An individual from Oakville is facing multiple charges following multiple driving complaints in Grey Highlands.

On August 19, 2025, at approximately 7:02 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple traffic complaints regarding a silver sedan travelling northbound on Highway 10 in Flesherton and Markdale. Witnesses reported the vehicle was operating at excessive speeds, making unsafe passes, and failing to maintain its lane.

Shortly after, officers located the vehicle at a gas station in Markdale. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle driving erratically, including swerving and accelerating aggressively into traffic.

Officers attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Police later located the vehicle parked on Main Street West in Markdale.

Following an investigation, the driver was identified and placed under arrest.

Chiragkumar PATEL, 25-years-old, of Oakville, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous Operation – Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs – CC
  • Fail to Stop for Police – Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor – Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 18, 2025.

Armed Robbery @ ATM – Details Released

(MARKDALE, ON) – On January 23, 2025, at approximately 10:38 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a robbery involving a firearm at a financial institution along Toronto Street North, Markdale.

Police attended the area, however the suspect fled prior to arrival. Investigation revealed that the victim was using the ATM at the location when they were approached and assaulted by the accused; who demanded the victim to withdraw funds from the ATM while brandishing a handgun.

Police were able to positively identify the accused through video surveillance, where they were taken into custody on January 24, 2025. Assisting units included OPP Canine, West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Grey-Bruce OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, and the OPP Regional Support Team (RST).

The involved weapon was seized and confirmed to be an imitation firearm.

As a result of the investigation, Gregory QUEHE, 36-years-old of Alliston, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Armed Robbery, CC 343(d)
  • Pointing a firearm, CC 87
  • Carrying concealed weapon, CC 90
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, CC 88
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, CC 117.01(1) – six counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
