Ash MILLER – Impaired Driving

(MANITOUWADGE, ON) – Officers from the Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a driver following complaints from members of the public while at a community event in Manitouwadge.

On Friday, August 1, 2025, at approximately 6:10 p.m., officers were travelling along the parade route of an event on Manitou Road and Ohweken Road when bystanders alerted them of an erratic driver in the vicinity.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver at a residence nearby. As a result of the investigation, one individual was taken into custody.

Ash MILLER, 24 years old, of Manitouwadge, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 20, 2025.

Cocaine Bust

(MANITOUWADGE, ON) – One Individual is facing charges after a search warrant was executed at a residence in Manitouwadge, Ontario. 

On March 12, 2025, members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), the K9 Unit, along with members of the Manitouwadge and Marathon detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a residence on Partridge Avenue in Manitouwadge.

The investigation has resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • Approximately 100g in cocaine, with an estimated street value of $10,000
  • 76 Dilauded pills, with an estimated street value of $2,500
  •  A switchblade
  • Over $4,000 in Canadian currency
  • Other items associated with drug trafficking

Steven Ferguson, 61-years-old of Manitouwadge, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Failure to comply with prohibition order

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Manitouwadge on the 14th of May 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

65 Year Old Suspended Driver Arrested Again

(MANITOWANING, ON) – One person is facing charges following an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision where the driver was ejected from an ATV on Cardwell Street in Manitowaning.

On December 20, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for a single ATV rollover, where the driver was ejected from the ATV. Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services attended the scene and transported the driver to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers conducted a general query and found the driver to be a prohibited driver. As a result, the driver was arrested for operation while prohibited. 

As a result, the driver, Richard OSAWANIMIKI, 65-years-old from Toronto, was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension – two counts
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts

The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 21, 2025.

Michael BROOKS Was Arrested

(MANITOWANING, ON) – One person has been arrested for impaired operation and several other charges following a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

On December 6, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a passenger attempting to jump out of a moving vehicle on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and further investigation led to the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

As a result, the driver, Michael BROOKS, 30-years-old from Cambridge, was charged with:

  • Refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation
  • Resist peace officer

The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 6, 2025.

Dewayne MIGWANS – Drunk Driving

(MANITOWANING, ON) – One person has been arrested and is facing impaired related charges following a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check in Manitowaning.

On December 1, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a RIDE check at the intersection of Queen Street and Michael’s Bay Road in Manitowaning. A vehicle came through the check, and officers detected on odour of alcohol coming from the driver. Further testing on scene resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

As a result, the driver, Dewayne MIGWANS, 43-years-old from Wikwemikong, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired -blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 7, 2025.

Drug Bust – GREER & MCGill

(MANITOUWADGE, ON) – The Manitouwadge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two people with drug related offences following the execution of a drug warrant.

On December 4, 2024, OPP members from the Marathon Community Street Crime Unit, North West Region Emergency Response Team, and the Canine Unit, executed a Controlled Drug and Substances warrant on a residence in Manitouwadge.

A search resulted in the seizure of prohibited firearms, replica style firearms, prohibited weapons and suspected crystal methamphetamine. 

As a result of this investigation, Stephanie GREER, 31-years-old of Manitouwadge, ON has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose – two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – seven counts
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose – five counts
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, or prohibited device – seven counts
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a schedule I substance

The accused was released from custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Manitouwadge on February 26, 2025.

Additionally, Christopher MCGILL, 35-years-old of Manitouwadge, ON has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, or prohibited device – seven counts
  • Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose – three counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – ten counts
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose – five counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused was held in custody and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice – Thunder Bay Bail court on December 5, 2024.

Meth Bust – Douglas POLLARD

(MANITOUWADGE, ON) – One individual is facing drug charges following a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant in the Town of Manitouwadge.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team and Manitouwadge OPP Detachment, executed a CDSA search warrant at a residence on Wendego Street.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of 125 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, codeine, and 13,000 illegal cigarettes. Canadian currency and other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.

As a result, Douglas POLLARD, 52-years-old, of Manitouwadge, has been arrested and charged under the CDSA, Criminal Code, and Tobacco Tax Act with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamines

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

·        Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for Sale

·        Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

John HAXTON Was Arrested

(MANITOUWADGE, ON) – A Manitouwadge resident is facing impaired operation charges following a traffic complaint.

On June 14, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the Manitouwadge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of an erratic driver in the Township of Manitouwadge. Officers located the vehicle at a local business on Huron Walk and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Manitouwadge OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, John HAXTON, 69-years-old, of Manitouwadge, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Manitouwadge on August 21, 2024.
