$100,000 Drug Bust – Names Released

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – Four people are facing charges after the execution of a Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant in Kirkland Lake.

On Thursday September 4, 2025, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS), executed a CDSA search warrant at a residence on Wishman Street.

As a result of the search, officers seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets, lorazepam tablets and clonazepam tablets, with an estimated street value of over $90,000. Police also recovered approximately $11,700 in Canadian currency, along with digital scales, ammunition and cellular phones.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon SCHUKAN, a 31-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts

·      Resist peace officer

·      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada

The accused has been remanded into custody and is schedule to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2025.

Additionally, Julie SCHRAEDER, a 41-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts

·      Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2025.

Additionally, Kevin COTES-TURPIN, a 40-year-old of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2025.

Additionally, Cassandra GIRARD, a 22-year-old of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Quebec, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2025.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three drivers with a total of 8 impaired-related offences in August.

On Sunday August 10, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake OPP were conducting general patrol on Highway 66 in Gauthier Township, when a traffic stop was conducted for speed related offences. Officers determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Philippe AUBERT, a 56-year-old of Terrebonne, Quebec was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 4, 2025.

On Tuesday August 12, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP received a complaint of a pickup truck crashing into garbage cans causing damage to a house and fence on Federal Street, Kirkland Lake. The vehicle initially failed to stop to emergency lights, a short time later a traffic stop was conducted on Goodfish Road. Officers determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Bradley HEBERT, a 25-year-old of Azilda was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Dangerous operation

·      Failure to stop after accident

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Disobey stop sign – fail to stop

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2025.

On Wednesday August 13, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a parked vehicle on Seventh Avenue, in Larder Lake. Police located the driver and determined that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Lynne CORMIER a 32-year-old of Matachewan was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2025.

Repeat Offenders Natalie MARTELL & Curtis GIBSON Arrested Again

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two people following an investigation into a series of copper wire thefts in the area.

In July 2024, the Kirkland Lake OPP launched an investigation after multiple reports of copper wire and related materials being stolen from mine sites and railway infrastructure throughout the region. The investigation has since linked three separate incidents to the same accused individuals.

As a result of the investigation Natalie MARTELL, a 46-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence – three counts

·      Theft over $5,000 – three counts

·      Mischief- destroys or damages property – three counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on October 2, 2025.

Additionally, Curtis GIBSON, a 36-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence- three counts

·      Theft over $5,000 – three counts

·      Mischief- destroys or damages property – three counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2025.

$38,000 Drug Bust – LEWIS

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – One person has been arrested following a drug trafficking investigation in Kirkland Lake.

On Friday August 15, 2025, members of the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Unit and Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) intercepted one person at the North Bay Ontario Northland Bus Terminal following a drug trafficking investigation in Kirkland Lake.

As the officers were observed, the person fled on foot towards a wooded area, the person was subsequently arrested a short time later. A search of the person and belongings resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and fentanyl with a total estimated street value of $38,000. Also seized was a Glock 27 with an extended magazine, ammunition and three cellular phones.

As a result of the investigation Rashid LEWIS, a 20-year-old from Scarborough, has been charged with:

·      Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x4

·      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

·      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- Opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- Cocaine

·      Resist peace officer

The accused has been remanded into custody and is schedule to appear before the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 20, 2025

Stephanie GABRIEL – Drunk Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – One person arrested for impaired driving at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.

On Saturday July 19,2025, at approximately 12:08 a.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a RIDE program on Goodfish Road, Kirkland Lake. A vehicle pulled up to the RIDE program, upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Stephanie GABRIEL, a 34-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been charged with, operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on August 7, 2025.

Shelby LOACH – Impaired Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest one person for impaired driving.

On Sunday June 22,2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m. the Kirkland Lake OPP conducted a sobriety check on a vehicle pulled over at the intersection of Highway 66 and Highway 112. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Shelby LOACH, a 27-year-old from Englehart, has been charged with, operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on September 5, 2025.

Joshua GALARNEAU Was Arrested Again

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A break and enter at the Encore Club has led to multiple charges for one person.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at approximately 12:20 a.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a Business on Second Street, Kirkland Lake for a burglary alarm. The Kirkland Lake OPP with assistance from Northeast Region Canine Unit, located and arrested one person hiding in a nearby bush.

As a result of the investigation, Joshua GALARNEAU, a 34-year-old, from Kirkland Lake was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Break and enter a place- commit indictable offence

·      Disguise with intent

·      Possession of break in instruments

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held for bail court hearing, remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 29, 2025.

Attempted Child Abduction: Patricia GALLICHAN-RULE Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual following an attempted abduction of a child.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, at approximately 12:35 p.m., officers responded to a report of an attempted child abduction in the parking lot of a store on Government Road in Kirkland Lake.

It was reported that an individual had approached a mother and child and attempted to gain access to the vehicle occupied by the child. The mother was able to secure the vehicle door, preventing entry, and the suspect fled the scene.

Upon police arrival, officers launched an investigation and later located the individual nearby.

As a result, Patricia GALLICHAN-RULE, a 38-year-old from Bonfield Township, was charged with:

·      Abduction of person under 14 – take or entice

·      Resist peace officer

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Provincial Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Friday, July 25, 2025.

GREER – Drunk Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A single motor vehicle collision leads to impaired charges in Arnold Township.

On Wednesday June 4,2025, at 11:45 p.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision, where the driver reported the collision was due to avoiding wildlife on Highway 672, in Arnold Township. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan GREER, a 29-year-old from Tarzwell Township, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired by alcohol

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 3, 2025.

Robert PIETRASIK – Drunk Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A traffic stop by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) leads to impaired charge.

On Friday May 16,2025, at approximately 11:15 p.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted MNR with a traffic stop of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on Highway 570 in the Township of Sesekinika. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment for further testing.  

As a result of the investigation, Robert PIETRASIK, a 61-year-old from Maisonville Township, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired by alcohol

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS). The accused was released from custody and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on June 5, 2025.

One Dead – Robert WORMALD Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person in relation to a drug overdose death investigation in Kirkland Lake.

On Monday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP, Timiskaming District Emergency Medical Services and Kirkland Lake Fire Services responded to a report of an unresponsive person at a residence on Government Road East. A 42-year-old from Kirkland Lake was located deceased.

As a result of the investigation, Robert WORMALD, 53 years old from Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with manslaughter contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Melissa TURCOTTE Was Arrested Again #3Strikes

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A local individual is facing multiple criminal charges after a report of a stolen taxi led to an impaired driving arrest in Kirkland Lake.

On Monday March 3, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a stolen taxi in the area of Government Road West in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply with police commands and was arrested at the scene. Further investigation determined that the driver was impaired by a substance. The individual was transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for a drug recognition evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

As a result of the investigation, Melissa TURCOTTE, a 37-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with the following:

·     Theft under $5,000 of a motor vehicle

·     Dangerous operation

·     Failure to stop after accident

·     Resist peace officer

·     Operation while impaired – drugs

·     Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

·     Driving while under suspension – two counts

The accused was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 15, 2025.

2 Arrested For Break & Enter

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The report of a break and enter has resulted in multiple charges for two Kirkland Lake residents.  

On Friday April 4, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter on Highway 66, in the Township of Larder Lake. The residence of a senior had been unoccupied at the time of the break and enter, over $25,000 of household items had been stolen and many items have since been recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Stephanie WINCIKABY, a 45-year-old of Kirkland Lake was arrested and charged for the following:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence

·      Mischief over $5,000

·      Theft under $5,000

·      Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on May 15, 2025.

Additionally, Richard MCDONALD, a 47-year-old of Kirkland Lake was arrested and charged for the following:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence

·      Mischief over $5,000

·      Theft under $5,000

·      Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused was released from a bail hearing and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on May 15, 2025.

Steven POWER Arrested Following Collision

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A motor vehicle collision leads to impaired charge for one Toronto resident.

On Sunday March 30,2025, at approximately 6:50 p.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Wright Hargreaves Avenue, in the Town of Kirkland Lake. The subject motor vehicle had backed into a parked vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. Officers demanded the driver provide a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver refused to provide a sample, the driver was then arrested and taken to a local hospital for monitoring and treatment of minor injuries.  

As a result of the investigation, Steven POWER, a 44-year-old from Toronto, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired by alcohol

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on May 15, 2025.

Melissa TURCOTT Was Arrested Again – Arson

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – An arson investigation leads to charges against one individual.

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Kirkland Lake Fire Department responded to a fire on Government Road East and to a second fire on McKelvie Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake. The Kirkland Lake Crime Unit was engaged and conducted an investigation, resulting in charges being laid on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Melissa TURCOTT, 37 years-old, of Kirkland Lake was charged with the following:

  • Arson – Disregard for Human life – two counts
  • Arson – Damage to Property – two counts
  • Fail to Comply with Probation – four counts

The accused remains in custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Thursday May 15, 2025.
