Arson – Pierre MATTE Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – An arson investigation leads to charges against one person.

On Sunday October 5, 2026, the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a structure fire in Virginiatown where a residence was engulfed in smoke and flames. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

As a result of the investigation, Pierre MATTE, a 58-year-old of Virginiatown has been arrested and charged with arson – damage to property.

The accused was remanded into custody and is to next appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice January 30, 2026.

Justian UMPHERVILLE Facing Numerous Charges Following Collision

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A single motor vehicle collision has resulted in impaired charges for the driver.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 66 in Larder Lake Township. The driver did not sustain any injuries.  Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing. A search of the motor vehicle located open liquor and suspected psilocybin mushrooms, which was seized.  

As a result of the investigation, Justian UMPHERVILLE, a 31-year-old of Kirkland Lake was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Dangerous operation

·      Uttering threats

·      Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

·      Possession of a Schedule III substance

·      Careless driving

·      Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt

·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence

·      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 22, 2026.

James STEVENS – Threats Toward “Police”

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A barricaded person incident in Larder Lake Township has resolved peacefully.

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence in Larder Lake Township to execute a warrant. Upon arrival, the individual uttered threats towards police which lead the surrounding roads to be closed to ensure public safety.

With the assistance of the Kirkland Lake OPP uniform and crime members, OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Crisis Negotiators and the OPP’s Critical Incident Command (CIC), the individual was arrested and taken into police custody.

As a result, James STEVENS, a 79-year-old of Larder Lake Township was arrested and charged with Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The accused remains in custody and is to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 6, 2026.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three drivers with impaired-related offences in November.

On Monday November 10, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle travelling over the posted speed limit. Upon speaking with the driver, officers believed that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Quinton JOHN, a 35-year-old of Dobie Township was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired- alcohol

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Drive motor vehicle- perform stunt- excessive speed

·      Careless driving

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a fourteen-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on December 18, 2025.

On Sunday November 16, 2025, at approximately 1:50 a.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP attended a single motor vehicle collision on Government Road, West, Kirkland Lake. Upon speaking with the driver, officers believed that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Janet CALDWELL, a 28-year-old of Larder Lake was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available

·      Drive motor vehicle with container of liquor

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on December 18, 2025.

On Sunday November 30,2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP were conducting general patrol when the Automated Licence Plate Recognition System notified police of a possible suspended driver. A traffic stop was conducted on Highway 11 in Grenfell Township. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver refused to comply with additional testing and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Ajay TANGRI, a 27-year-old of New Liskeard was arrested and charged for Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2026.

Drug Bust – MACALPINE & OUELLETT

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A proactive traffic stop in Kirkland Lake resulted in two arrests and the seizure of drugs.

On Saturday September 13, 2025, the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol in the Town of Kirkland Lake. Officers stopped a vehicle after confirming the licence plates were not valid.

Open alcohol was observed inside the vehicle, which led to a search. As a result of the search, officers seized suspected ecstasy, crystal methamphetamine, and cocaine, with a street value of over $2,300. Additionally, scales, brass knuckles, and approximately $330 in Canadian currency were seized.

As a result of the investigation, Jasmine OUELLETTE, a 26-year-old from Cobalt, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- ecstasy

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·      Carrying a concealed weapon

The accused is schedule to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on November 27, 2025.

Additionally, Neil MACALPINE, a 28-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

3 More Impaired Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three drivers with a total of 8 impaired-related offences in September through October.

On Friday September 26, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP received a report of a vehicle on Goodfish Road doing burnouts on the road with pallets of the truck and onto the roadway. Officers located the driver further down the road and determined the driver had consumed alcohol beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Jesse MAYHEW, a 23-year-old of Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Driving while under suspension

·      Insecure load

·      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 22, 2026.

On Friday October 17, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP received a complaint of a possible impaired bus driver. Police located the school bus parked off Government Road East, with no children onboard. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted which the driver performed poorly on. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Meghan NORMAN, a 28-year-old of Kirkland Lake was charged with operation while impaired – drugs.

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on November 27, 2025.

On Saturday October 11, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP was  conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Highway 11 in Kenogami. A driver approached the RIDE program and identified with a G1 driver’s licence. Upon speaking with the driver, officers believed that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Donovan HACK, a 36-year-old of New Liskeard, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol l

·      Use unauthorized plate – two counts

·      Novice driver B.A.C above zero

·      Permit novice driver to drive in contravention of conditions

·      Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·      Use plate not authorized for vehicle – two counts

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 29, 2026.

On Sunday October 26, 2025, police received a call from a local establishment reporting a person attempting to drive while suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was located still in the parking lot near Duncan Avenue South. Upon speaking with the driver officers determined that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Steephan BINIL, a 46-year-old of Kirkland Lake has been charged with

·      Drive motor vehicle no licence

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol 80 plus

·      Fail to comply with probation order

4 Arrested After Copper Wire Theft

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged four people following a report of copper wire theft.

On Sunday August 17, 2025, the Kirkland Lake OPP received a report of abandoned copper wire and suspicious vehicle in the area of Chaput Hughes. Through a combination of witness statements, police observations, and the execution of three search warrants, officers recovered a significant quantity of industrial-grade copper wire, along with casings and tools commonly used for stealing and stripping copper.

As a result of the investigation, Michael DAVIS, a 48-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Theft over $5,000

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Additionally, Samantha CHAMBERLAIN, a 47-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Theft over $5,000

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Additionally, Gloria CORCORAN, a 43-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Fail to comply with probation order

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Additionally, Michael ANDERSON, a 34-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

All accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on November 27, 2025.

Drug Bust – Rashawn KING, Michelle DENOMME & Tiffany DENOMME

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A proactive traffic stop in Kirkland Lake has led to the arrest of three people and a seizure of drugs and paraphernalia.

On Saturday October 25, 2025, the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol in the Town of Kirkland Lake and stopped a vehicle on Taylor Avenue. Police identified the driver as having outstanding warrants from Durham Regional Police Service, and the driver was arrested. Police located controlled drugs and substances that lead to a search of the vehicle and passengers. 

As a result of the search, officers seized suspected methamphetamine, cannabis, fentanyl and cocaine, with a street value of over $13,900. Additionally, scales, baggies, other drug paraphernalia and over $3,600 in Canadian currency were seized. 

As a result of the investigation, Rashawn KING, a 24-year-old from Ajax, has been charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking opioid

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·      Fail to comply with probation order

·      Possession for the purpose of distributing

·      Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance – methamphetamine

·      Having liquor in open container in unauthorized place

·      Having care of control of vehicle with cannabis available

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on November 6, 2025.

Additionally, Michelle DENOMME, a 28-year-old of Englehart, has been charged with:

·      Failure to comply with release order – three counts

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid – two counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·      Possession for the purpose of distributing

$100,000 Drug Bust – Names Released

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – Four people are facing charges after the execution of a Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant in Kirkland Lake.

On Thursday September 4, 2025, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS), executed a CDSA search warrant at a residence on Wishman Street.

As a result of the search, officers seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets, lorazepam tablets and clonazepam tablets, with an estimated street value of over $90,000. Police also recovered approximately $11,700 in Canadian currency, along with digital scales, ammunition and cellular phones.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon SCHUKAN, a 31-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts

·      Resist peace officer

·      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada

The accused has been remanded into custody and is schedule to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2025.

Additionally, Julie SCHRAEDER, a 41-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

Officers determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Philippe AUBERT, a 56-year-old of Terrebonne, Quebec was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 4, 2025.

On Tuesday August 12, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP received a complaint of a pickup truck crashing into garbage cans causing damage to a house and fence on Federal Street, Kirkland Lake. The vehicle initially failed to stop to emergency lights, a short time later a traffic stop was conducted on Goodfish Road. Officers determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Bradley HEBERT, a 25-year-old of Azilda was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Dangerous operation

·      Failure to stop after accident

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Disobey stop sign – fail to stop

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2025.

On Wednesday August 13, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a parked vehicle on Seventh Avenue, in Larder Lake. Police located the driver and determined that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Lynne CORMIER a 32-year-old of Matachewan was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day ADLS and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2025.

Repeat Offenders Natalie MARTELL & Curtis GIBSON Arrested Again

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two people following an investigation into a series of copper wire thefts in the area.

In July 2024, the Kirkland Lake OPP launched an investigation after multiple reports of copper wire and related materials being stolen from mine sites and railway infrastructure throughout the region. The investigation has since linked three separate incidents to the same accused individuals.

As a result of the investigation Natalie MARTELL, a 46-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence – three counts

·      Theft over $5,000 – three counts

·      Mischief- destroys or damages property – three counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on October 2, 2025.

Additionally, Curtis GIBSON, a 36-year-old from Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence- three counts

·      Theft over $5,000 – three counts

·      Mischief- destroys or damages property – three counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts

$38,000 Drug Bust – LEWIS

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – One person has been arrested following a drug trafficking investigation in Kirkland Lake.

On Friday August 15, 2025, members of the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Unit and Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) intercepted one person at the North Bay Ontario Northland Bus Terminal following a drug trafficking investigation in Kirkland Lake.

As the officers were observed, the person fled on foot towards a wooded area, the person was subsequently arrested a short time later. A search of the person and belongings resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and fentanyl with a total estimated street value of $38,000. Also seized was a Glock 27 with an extended magazine, ammunition and three cellular phones.

As a result of the investigation Rashid LEWIS, a 20-year-old from Scarborough, has been charged with:

·      Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x4

·      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

·      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- Opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- Cocaine

·      Resist peace officer

The accused has been remanded into custody and is schedule to appear before the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 20, 2025

Stephanie GABRIEL – Drunk Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – One person arrested for impaired driving at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.

On Saturday July 19,2025, at approximately 12:08 a.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a RIDE program on Goodfish Road, Kirkland Lake. A vehicle pulled up to the RIDE program, upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Stephanie GABRIEL, a 34-year-old from Kirkland Lake, has been charged with, operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on August 7, 2025.

Shelby LOACH – Impaired Driving

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest one person for impaired driving.

On Sunday June 22,2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m. the Kirkland Lake OPP conducted a sobriety check on a vehicle pulled over at the intersection of Highway 66 and Highway 112. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Shelby LOACH, a 27-year-old from Englehart, has been charged with, operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on September 5, 2025.

Joshua GALARNEAU Was Arrested Again

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – A break and enter at the Encore Club has led to multiple charges for one person.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at approximately 12:20 a.m. the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a Business on Second Street, Kirkland Lake for a burglary alarm. The Kirkland Lake OPP with assistance from Northeast Region Canine Unit, located and arrested one person hiding in a nearby bush.

As a result of the investigation, Joshua GALARNEAU, a 34-year-old, from Kirkland Lake was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Break and enter a place- commit indictable offence

·      Disguise with intent

·      Possession of break in instruments

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held for bail court hearing, remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 29, 2025.
