Fatal Snowmobile Collision

(IGNACE, ON) At approximately 12:05 am on March 1st, 2025, Ignace OPP attended a collision involving a single motorized snow vehicle (MSV) on the OFSC trail in the Township of Ignace.

Members of the Ignace Volunteer Fire Department, Northwest EMS and the OPP North West Region T.I.M.E. Team (Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement) attended.

A 25-year-old was pronounced deceased on scene.

The OFSC Trail remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

OPP continues their investigation regarding the collision, anyone with information can contact OPP at 888-310-1122 or Crime stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

Traffic safety remains a top priority of the OPP and is a key component of the OPP’s public safety mandate. Investigations resulting in the loss of life and serious injuries can be complex to investigate. One Dead – Sukhdeep SARAN Arrested

(IGNACE, ON) -The Ignace Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following a fatal collision that occurred on March 17, 2023.

On March 17, 2023, shortly before 1:00 a.m., members of the Ignace OPP Detachment along with Emergency Medical Services, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Ignace Township involving a commercial motor vehicle and a snow plow. The occupant from the snow plow was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the commercial motor vehicle has been arrested and charged under the criminal code.

Sukhdeep SARAN, 42-years-old, from Calgary Alberta is charged criminally with:

·      Causing Death by Criminal Negligence

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on March 3rd, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

3 Deceased Following Collision

(IGNACE, ON) – The Dryden and Ignace Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision.

On the 23rd of January 2025, shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a fatal collision involving two commercial motor vehicles (CMV) on Highway 17 west of the township of Ignace.

As a result, three parties have been pronounced deceased at the scene. Highway 17 has since been reopened. While the investigation remains on-going, charges are not being considered at this time.

Fatal Pedestrian Collision

(IGNACE, ON) – On September 26th, 2024, at approximately 10:14 a.m., members of the Ignace, Dryden, Shabaqua & Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments along with the Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a fatal collision involving one commercial motor vehicle (CMV) & one pedestrian along Highway 17, approximately 5 kilometers west of English River.

As of September 26th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., the highway was opened, the investigation remains on-going & charges are not being considered at this time.

The deceased has been identified as a 58-year-old male, from Scugog Township.
