Robert SLEMKO Was Arrested Again

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after responding to an assault call.

On Monday, February 16, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP officers responded to an assault call for service in the Township of Horton. 

As a result of the investigation, Robert SLEMKO age 66 of Horton Township was charged with:

–      Two counts of assault with a weapon

–      Two counts of uttering threats- to cause death or bodily harm

–      Two counts of failure to comply with probation order  

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Brent FLEURY Was Arrested

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere initiative (R.I.D.E) in Admaston/Bromley Township.

On Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Renfrew OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E initiative in Admaston/Bromley Township. A vehicle attempted to evade the initiative, and a traffic stop was conducted.

As a result of the investigation, Brent FLEURY age 35 of Horton Township was charged with:

–      Operation while prohibited

–      Obstruct peace officer

–      Possession of a schedule I substance- Methamphetamine

–      Possession of a schedule I substance- other drug

–      Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice   

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 1, 2026.

Hwy 60 Fatal Collision

(HORTON TWP., ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision on Highway 60 in Horton Township, which led to a temporary closure of the highway in both directions from Butler Road to Cotieville Road. The highway has since reopened.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Renfrew Detachment of the OPP responded to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a car. The driver of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old male from Ottawa, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver and sole occupant of the car was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionist attended the scene, alongside emergency crews. The investigation remains ongoing.

Violent Robbery – Repeat Offender Arrested Again – Todd MEGRATH #3Strikes

(RENFREW, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made a quick arrest after a robbery in Renfrew.

On Monday, September 29. 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers with the Renfrew Detachment responded to a reported robbery at a convenience store on O’Brien Street, near Eighth Street.

A male had entered the store, assaulted an employee and fled with stolen goods. The employee was not seriously hurt. The male then returned to the store just before officers arrived but again fled on foot.

Officers located the individual nearby and arrested him. They seized a knife and recovered the stolen property.

As a result of the investigation, Todd MEGRATH, age 46 of Horton Township, has been charged with:

  • Robbery with violence
  • Assault – two counts
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order – seven counts
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – two counts

The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke for a bail hearing on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Small Boat Goes Over Falls – One Dead

(HORTON TWP, ON) – A Horton Township resident is deceased after a boating incident on the Bonnechere River.

Officers with the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Horton Township Firefighters and Renfrew County Paramedics were called to the scene along Thompson Road just before 9:00 p.m. on July 8, 2024.

It was reported that a male in a small boat had gone over the Bonnechere Falls.

Boats from the Arnprior Fire Department and paramedic services were launched as part of the search.

The male’s body was located in the water, downstream from the falls.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 82-year-old male was pronounced deceased.

He had not been wearing a life jacket.

The man’s 59-year-old son also went over the falls in a kayak while searching for his father. He was not seriously hurt but was transported to hospital as a precaution.
