Matthew MCKELLAR Arrested For Impaired After Throwing Beer Cans

(ESSA, ON)- Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a traffic complaint in Essa Township.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on August 23, 2025, Nottawasaga OPP responded to a traffic complaint near 6802 County Road 10 in Essa Township. Witnesses reported that the driver was observed swerving and passing vehicles on the solid yellow line, while throwing beer cans out of the window prior to pulling into a gas station. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. Based on their observations, officers determined the driver was impaired and placed them under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew MCKELLAR 25-years-old of Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 18, 2025, to answer to the charge.

Isaac OLEARY – Impaired Driving

ESSA , ON)- Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a single motor vehicle collision in Essa Township.

On August 6, 2025, shortly after 2:00 p.m., members of the Nottawasaga OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision in the area of Mill Street, Essa Township, where the driver had struck a pole in a parking lot. Officers located the vehicle and met with the driver. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs, leading to the driver’s arrest.  

As a result of the investigation, Isaac OLEARY 28-years-old of Essa was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 4, 2025, to answer to the charge.

Hit & Run – Cassie WILTSHIRE Arrested

(ESSA, ON)– Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a fail to remain collision in Essa Township

On July 28, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on 11th Line, north of Side Road 20 in Essa Township. One of the involved individuals fled the scene on foot into a nearby field.

The OPP Canine Unit was deployed, and the suspect was located shortly before 7:00 p.m. Grounds were formed that the individual’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, resulting in their arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Cassie WILTSHIRE 28-years-old of Essa was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 4, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

Shannon MCKEE – Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON)– Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving after being stopped for speeding in Essa Township

On July 9, 2025, shortly before 8:00 p.m., A Nottawasaga OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Mill Street in Essa Township. The officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and during the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to the driver’s arrest. 

As a result of the investigation, Shannon MCKEE 38-years-old of Collingwood was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on August 14, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

Charity Box Stolen – Christopher LANG Arrested Again! #HowLowCanUGo

ESSA, ON) – Officers from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual in connection to a charity box theft in Essa Township.

On July 9, 2025, shortly after 9:00a.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a theft incident at a local business on Mill Street in Essa Township. Video footage obtained determined that the male suspect entered the store the night before, stealing a charity box before fleeing the store.

Officers were able to identify the suspect with the assistance from the public and as a result of investigation,

Christopher LANG 28-years-old of Essa was charged with the following:

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Keith MACKINNON – Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

( ESSA, ON)- Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a motor vehicle collision in Essa Township.

On June 11, 2025, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a single vehicle in the ditch on the 5th Line, in the Essa Township. Officers located the vehicle and upon initial investigation no persons were located at the scene. During the investigation two individuals returned to the vehicle and met with officers. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to the driver’s arrest.  

As a result of the investigation, Keith MACKINNON 54-years-old of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to remain
  • Occupant – fail to report accident
  • Fail to report damage to property on highway

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 10, 2025, to answer to the charge.

Kevin WHITEHOUSE Was Arrested

(ESSA, ON)- Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a traffic complaint in Essa Township.

On June 11, 2025, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Mill Street, in the Essa Township. The vehicle was described as being operated in a concerning manner and the driver was unable to maintain standing when entering into a business. Officers located the vehicle and met with the driver. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired, leading to the driver’s arrest.  

As a result of the investigation, Kevin WHITEHOUSE 31-years-old of Essa was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 10, 2025, to answer to the charge.

James WHITE Arrested – Details Released

(ESSA, ON)– Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving after being stopped for speeding in Essa Township

On May 17, 2025, at 4:33 p.m., A Nottawasaga OPP Traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement on County road 90 in Essa Township. The officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and during the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to the driver’s arrest. 

As a result of the investigation, James WHITE 57-years-old of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on June 12, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

Adam MAY – Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON)- Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving following a motor vehicle collision in Essa Township

On May 17, 2025, shortly before 5:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP attended a single motor vehicle collision on 25th Side Road in Essa Township. Officers were met with a driver and during the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to the driver’s arrest. 

As a result of the investigation, Adam MAY 47-years-old of Clearview was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Driver fail to surrender licence
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on June 19, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

Cocaine Bust – MURPHY & DAVENPORT

(ESSA, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Central Region Canine of the Ontario Provincial Police, have arrested and charged two individuals following a search warrant execution in Essa Township.

On May 15, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Talsi Street, in Essa Township. Police located and seized a 2016 Mercedes GLE 350 SUV valued at $40,000.00 that was reported stolen out of Nottawasaga back in 2024. Officers seized 10 grams of cocaine and other drug trafficking packaging, scales and paraphernalia. As a result of the investigation:

Colton MURPHY 30-years-old of Essa was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession property obtained by Crime Over $5000.00
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

Kathryn DAVENPORT 23-years-old of Beeton was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession property obtained by Crime Over $5000.00
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

The accused parties are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 3 Arrested

(ESSA, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged three individuals in relation to a stolen vehicle.

On April 19, 2025, at 1:00 a.m., Officers were conducting general patrols in the area of 11th Line for an unrelated call for service in Essa Township. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle determining that the driver was wanted with another police service.

Officers searched incident to arrest and observed the VIN number at the front windshield was also reported stolen out of Huronia West OPP Detachment.

Upon further investigation, all three accused parties were arrested and charged with the following:

Jonathan, GARWOOD 56-years-old of Barrie was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime
  • Use Plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Drive with seat belt assembly inoperative
  • Operate unsafe vehicle
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

Robert MERCER 56-years-old of Barrie was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime

Cameron MANCHESTER 22 -years-old of Severn Township was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime

The accused parties are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Sinh DANG Was Arrested

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one driver for refusing to comply with a breath demand over the Easter long weekend in Essa Township.

On April 20, 2025, shortly after 1:30 a.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a traffic tip of a possible impaired driver heading towards Essa, last seen getting into a vehicle in Innisfil.

At 1:55 a.m. officers was able to locate the vehicle on Banting Crescent in Angus. Upon initial interaction, the drivers eyes were red and glossy. The driver was having difficulties answering the officers questions and following normal conversation. The officer had suspicion of impairment by an alcoholic beverage, issuing an Approved Screening Device demand (ASD). Subsequently the driver refused.

The driver: Sinh DANG, 42 years-old, of Essa, was arrested and charge with:  

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on May 22, 2025, to answer to the charges.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand whether for an Approved Screening Device (ASD) or an intoxilyzer at the police station carries the same legal consequences as an impaired driving charge under the Criminal Code of Canada.

COOK Frankie – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a single vehicle collision with impaired operation in Essa Township.

On April 20, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision at 132 Auburn Street, in Essa. A resident near by contacted police to report that a vehicle had just drove through a residential property fence and the driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel.

At 5:22 p.m., officers arrived at the collision at which time the officerS spoke with the lone male driver. Officers assisted the driver out of the motor vehicle and was observed to be unsteady on his feet and unable to maintain a conversation or answer the officers questions. The male was assessed and cleared by paramedics, and based on the numerous observed signs of intoxication and impairment, The driver was arrested and charged with operation while impaired.

At 5:37 p.m., COOK Frankie, a 28-years-old male of Essa was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on May 8 2025, to answer to the charges.

Deceased Found In Fire

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a residential fire in the Township of Essa, which resulted in the death of one individual.

On April 15, 2025, shortly after 3:00 p.m., the Nottawasaga OPP responded to a residential fire on 9th Line. Essa Fire Department attended the scene, and sadly, one individual was located deceased.

At this time, the fire has been deemed non-suspicious, and no foul play is suspected in the death of the individual.

The Ontario Fire Marshal will continue to investigate with assistance from the Nottawasaga OPP Crime and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

61 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a single vehicle collision with impaired operation in the Township of Essa.

On March 19, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a single motor vehicle in the ditch in the area of Underhill Court and 5th line in the Township of Essa. No injuries were reported. 

Upon arrival the driver Laura DI VALENTIN, 61-years-old of Essa Township, displayed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at 4:36 p.m. for the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on May 1, 2025, to answer to the charges.
