45 in a 90 Results In Impaired Driving Charge For Manpreet KAUR

(DRIFTWOOD, ON) – A proactive traffic stop by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Highway 11 resulted in impaired driving charges against a Hearst resident.

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a James Bay OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling eastbound in Calder Township at a significantly reduced speed of 45 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The vehicle was also failing to maintain its lane position.

Police initiated a traffic stop and determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance. The individual was arrested and transported to the Cochrane OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Manpreet KAUR, 28 years-of-age from Hearst, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

·        Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle

·        Unnecessary slow driving

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on November 4, 2025. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The James Bay OPP continues to prioritize road safety through enforcement and community awareness, reminding all drivers that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, puts lives at risk.

Hwy 11 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(DRIFTWOOD, ON) – An officer-initiated traffic stop, led to charges for impaired driving, and having open liquor and cannabis readily available in a vehicle.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., a James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a vehicle with inconsistent speeds and swerving from shoulder to centre line, on Highway 11 in Driftwood.   

A traffic stop was conducted, and police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Cochrane detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Monique LAURIN, 57 years of age of Tiny Township, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 23, 2024 in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
