Erratic Driver in Cobourg Turns Out Prohibited — Cannabis Seized, Vehicle Impounded

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with cannabis-related offences following a traffic stop.

On October 1, 2025, shortly after 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle being driven erratically on Theatre Road in the Township of Hamilton.

While on patrol, officers located a vehicle matching the description on William Street in Cobourg, where it entered a commercial parking lot.

Following speaking to the driver, police learned that the motorist was prohibited from driving.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a number of black plastic bags containing loose cannabis material. The vehicle was also impounded for 45 days.

As a result, Luke BATEMAN (46), from Cobourg, has been charged with:

–       Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place

–       Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house

–       Operation while prohibited

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in November.

Naloxone Credited With Saving Police Officer – Details Released

COBOURG (September 21, 2025) – A Cobourg Police Service officer was exposed to fentanyl during a warrant arrest earlier this evening. A 33-year-old Cobourg woman is facing charges.

On September 21, at approximately 7:45 p.m., police on patrol observed an individual wanted on a bench warrant. During the arrest, one officer began exhibiting symptoms consistent with opioid exposure. A second officer on scene immediately administered naloxone, and the officer was transported to the hospital for treatment. The officer is currently in fair condition.

Desiree Irwin (33) of Cobourg was arrested on the strength of a bench warrant for causing disturbance, failing to comply with probation, failing to attend court, failing to attend prints, and was further charged with Possession of a schedule 1 substance (fentanyl). The accused was held for bail.

Pervert Alert: Cobourg Man Charged in Disturbing Child Sex Assault Investigation

A Cobourg man is facing sexual assault charges after a police investigation.

On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Bureau began an investigation into allegations of sexual offences. As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and is facing the following charges:

  • Sexual Assault: Contrary to Section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Sexual Interference: Contrary to Section 151 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching: Contrary to Section 152 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Make Sexually Explicit Material available to a person under 14 years of age: Contrary to Section 171.1(1)(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held for a bail hearing. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

Male Arrested for Failing to Comply with Release Order

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Cobourg Police responded to a disturbance in the area of King Street and Division Street in Cobourg.  Upon arrival, officers located a male who was known to have an outstanding warrant. The male was arrested on the strength of the warrant.  As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old man from Cobourg was charged with Failing to Comply with a Release Order.  The male was held for a bail hearing.


A 53-year-old Cobourg man is facing mischief charges after causing damage to a vehicle in the Town of Cobourg.

At approximately 3:35 p.m., on September 17, 2025, police responded to a report of a male ramming a shopping cart into a car. Police learned that the suspect was walking across the street as the vehicle approached. As the complainant drove past, the accused turned the cart and rammed the vehicle. The complainant’s vehicle sustained minor damage.

As a result of the police investigation, a 53-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Video Of Thief Released! Call 911 Immediately If Recognized

COBOURG (September 17, 2025) – The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is currently investigating two thefts of lottery tickets from two gas stations in the Town of Cobourg.

On September 4, 2025, police responded to a report of theft from a gas station on Division Street. At approximately 5:20 p.m., a man entered the store and while an employee turned their back, the man stole approximately 124 lottery tickets.

A similar theft occurred at a second gas station on Division Street, where approximately three lottery tickets were stolen. The suspect was seen arriving and departing the area in a navy-blue Dodge Caravan.

Police are investigating whether these incidents are connected to similar incidents in other jurisdictions. The investigation is ongoing, and police are looking to identify the suspect. Murder – Kenneth TROLLEY Arrested

(Cobourg, ON) – One person has been charged in connection with a death in Cobourg.  

On the morning of March 2, 2025, Cobourg Police Service responded to a residence on James Street where one person was located deceased. Just before 10:00 a.m., members of the OPP were contacted to assist with the investigation.  

Kenneth TROLLEY, 41 years old of Cobourg, has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The investigation is being conducted by the Cobourg Police Service with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Jacob SUTHERLAND – Trafficking

(COBOURG, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Police were conducting a RIDE spot check on Division Street in Cobourg when a passenger vehicle approached and was stopped. Officers entered into an investigation which led to the seizure of approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine.

Jacob SUTHERLAND, 18-years-old, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

·        Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·        Driver fail to surrender licence.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
