Conley Smith – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On January 24th, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Fire Services responded to a single-vehicle collision on Farmstead Road. The vehicle had struck a gas meter.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in a ditch and spoke with the driver. Following an investigation, it was confirmed that no gas leak had occurred.

Subsequently, the driver was investigated for operating a vehicle while impaired. As a result, 32-year-old Conley Smith of Little Britain was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

25 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested Following Hit & Run

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On January 22nd, 2025, at 7:35 a.m., Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a vehicle in the ditch and had been there for several hours idling.

Police attended the scene on Country Lane and located the vehicle in the ditch. After speaking with the driver, police entered an investigation for impaired driving.

As a result, 25-year-old, Josh Kierstead-Oliver from Coboconk was arrested and charged with

  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to report accident

The accused was released from custody with a future court date and served a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

The passenger in the vehicle was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act for having liquor in open container in unauthorized place.

James Stapley Was Arrested – Details Released

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) -On January 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service in Woodville. Upon arrival, the officers located the suspect, asleep in his vehicle with the engine running and the window partially down.

After waking the individual and engaging in a brief conversation, officers initiated an investigation into impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old, James Stapley, the suspect, was arrested and subsequently charged with

–      Operation while impaired

–      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay. In accordance with impaired driving laws, their driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The OPP remains dedicated to removing alcohol and drug-impaired drivers from the road through both enforcement and public education. If you suspect a driver is impaired, please call 9-1-1. Justin Adamson Was Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On January 14th, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of an impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

After speaking with the driver, the officer entered an investigation for operation while impaired.

As a result, 41-year-old, Justin Adamson, from Omemee was arrested and charged with

  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The driver was released from custody with a future court date and served a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Vandewall – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation following an interaction at a collision scene.

Officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on William Street in Bobcaygeon on Friday January 10, 2025 at approximately 6:26pm. Upon arriving on scene an impaired driving investigation commenced. A red GMC pick-up was involved in the collision when it struck a Hydro pole.

Leo Vandewall, 54-year-old of Omemee, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day license suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.

Thomas Hall Was Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On January 9, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.

A vehicle entered the RIDE program, and while engaging with the driver, officers observed an open container of alcohol within the vehicle. This prompted an investigation for impaired operation.

As a result of the investigation, Thomas Hall, a 29-year-old resident of Woodville, was charged with the following offence:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Driving a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Liquor

In addition to the charges, their license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days. 

The individual was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Robert GALLO Was Arrested Again

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision in Emily Township.

On December 28,2024, at 8:06 p.m., officers were dispatched after a motor vehicle had lost control on Pigeon Lake Road. Officers along with Kawartha Lakes Paramedics attended the scene and located the driver who had sustained minor injuries. 

Through investigation, Robert GALLO, 35-year-old from Lindsay was arrested and charged with

·      Failure or Refusal to comply with demand

·      Failure to comply with prohibition order

·      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – other drugs

·      Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device

·      Class G1 Licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·      Careless Driving

·      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody and will appear later in court.

Claude Johnson – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle in the ditch on County Road 36.

On December 20,2024, at 10:04 p.m., officers were dispatched after a motor vehicle had been located on County Road 36 in the ditch. Witnesses at the scene provided information that the driver of the vehicle had taken off on foot and was no longer at the scene. Responding officers located the driver a short distance away from the vehicle.

Through investigation, Claude Johnson, 45-year-old from Peterborough was arrested and charged with

–      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.

Cocaine Bust – Kristopher SANCHEZ Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop that ended with an Unknown substance being seized and charges laid.

On December 16, 2024, at 10:46 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act Offence (H.T.A.), through investigation the driver was emitting an odour of alcohol, and an open alcoholic beverage could be seen in the vehicle. After conducting a Approved Screening Device (ASD) Test, the driver had provided a result of 7milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood. A search was conducted of the vehicle, under the authorities given to police officers in the Liquor Licence Control Act s.42(2). Numerous empty alcoholic beverages were located inside the vehicle as well as a bag of a unknown white powdery substance. A total of 1.4g of white powdery substance was seized, including 4 pipes with drug residue and 2 other bags with suspected drug residue.

The driver was subsequently arrested for Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences.

Kristopher SANCHEZ, a 47-year-old of Norland, was charged with:

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

–      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice and a Part III ticket and will appear later in court.

Michael Carveth – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle in the ditch on Simcoe Street.

On Dember 142024, at 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched after a motor vehicle had been located on Simcoe Street in the ditch. Witnesses at the scene provided information that the driver of the vehicle had taken off on foot and was no longer at the scene. Responding officers located the driver just north of the vehicle.

Through investigation, Michael Carveth, 36-year-old from Beaverton was arrested and charged with

–      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.

17 Year Old Facing Explosives Charge

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment, Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS) have laid a charge in connection to an unknown substance being brought into a school

On December 11, 2024, KLPS officers received information regarding an unknown substance being brought into school by a student. It was determined that there was no threat to public or school safety. Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands OPP were notified and in conjunction with the KLPS, continued the investigation.  

As a result, a youth from Minden Hills Township has been arrested and charged for an offence related to explosives.

Out of an abundance of caution, members from the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit have attended the school and confirmed that there is no threat to public safety.

Impaired Drivers Charged

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into two separate impaired driving investigations on December 11, 2024.

On December 11, 2024, at approximately 8:18 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.) offence on St. Joseph Road, Lindsay. Through investigation the driver was believed to be impaired, however, refused to complete the testing.

Bradley ROCHON, 31-year-old of Lindsay, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle (H.T.A.)

On December 11, 2024, at approximately 11:04 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Glenarm Road in Eldon Township for a Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.) offence. Through investigation the driver was charged with H.T.A offences related to impaired driving.

Oscar CECI, 18-year-old of Fenelon Falls, was charged with

  • Speeding 1-49km/h over posted limit (84km/h in posted 50km/h zone)
  • Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) above zero
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Bradley ROCHON is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. Bradley’s vehicle was impounded for 7 days and Oscar had a sober and more responsible driver assist in picking up their vehicle.

Repeat Offenders Arrested Again – Cocaine A Factor

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service involving a suspected impaired driver in Fenelon Falls.

On Saturday December 07, 2024 at approximately 3:54 am officers were notified of a possible impaired driver. Responding officers located the motor vehicle in question in Fenelon Falls. Through investigation the driver and passenger were arrested and charged with Criminal Code, Controlled Drug and Substances Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Liquor License Act offences.

Cody Puffer, 35-year-old of Norwood, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available

Ashley Fenton, 31-year-old of Port Hope was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Both driver and passenger were held for a bail hearing with the Ontario Court of Justice.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into a drug trafficking investigation following an interaction at a RIDE program.

Officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 35 near Golf Course Road on December 2nd, 2024 at approximately 2:35 am when a motor vehicle entered the RIDE stop and following an interaction with the driver and four occupants the officers entered into a drug trafficking investigation.  Through investigation the driver and all four passengers were arrested and charged with Criminal Code, Controlled Drug and Substances Act, Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Liquor License Act offences.

Jamie Adams, 34-year-old of Lindsay, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Fail to Surrender Insurance Card
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle

Ronnie Escott, 30-year-old of Lindsay was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Ashley Johnson, 39-year-old of Lindsay was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Tamara Mcquade, 26-year-old of Lindsay was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Adam Wesley, 34-year-old of Hamilton was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Randy Switzer – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on November 26, 2024 following a call for service regarding a motor vehicle.

On November 27, 2024, at approximately 6:31 pm, an off-duty OPP officer reported a possible impaired driver northbound on Highway 35 just south of Fenelon Falls. Officers responded to the call for service. A traffic stop was completed and officers entered into an impaired driving investigation.

Randy Switzer, 65-year-old of Fenelon Falls, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days and the drivers license was suspended for 90 days.
