Brady SMITH – Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one person with impaired operation.

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, just before 8:00 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers were conducting traffic patrol in the municipality of Hastings Highlands. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and an approved screening device was used. As a result, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Brady SMITH, a 43-year-old resident of Manvers Township, has been charged with the following:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on March 3, 2026.

John STURGES – Assault

(BANCROFT, ON) – The Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person following a complaint of assault.

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, a member of the public attended the Bancroft OPP Detachment to report that an assault had occurred the previous day. After further investigation, one person was arrested.

As a result, John STURGES, 68, from Hastings Highlands has been charged with the following:

–      Assault

–      Mischief under $5,000 – two counts

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on March 3, 2026.

Heidi BRETHOUR Was Arrested Again! #3Strikes

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested one person and laid multiple charges after a breach of probation.

On Sunday, January 25, 2026, an individual suspected of breaching release conditions, was spotted in the Town of Bancroft. They were arrested and a search resulted in the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and suspected fentanyl.

As a result, Heidi BRETHOUR, 45, of Bancroft has been charged with the following:

·        Fail to Comply with a probation order – 3 counts

·        Fail to comply with a release order – 5 counts

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

·        Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was held for bail and remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 27, 2026.

Thomas WESTENBRINK – Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one person with impaired driving.

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, just before 3:30 a.m., Bancroft OPP officers received a traffic complaint from a member of the public. A short time later officers located the vehicle. An approved screening device was used, as a result the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Thomas WESTENBRINK, a 22-year-old resident of Toronto, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on February 3, 2026.

$10,000 Drug Bust

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have seized over $10,000 worth of drugs in the town of Bancroft.

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, shortly before 10:00 p.m., officers received an anonymous tip from the public regarding drugs and a possible wanted person. Officers located the person in a parking lot. During the investigation two people were arrested and a search of the vehicle located over 85 grams of suspected methamphetamine, over 78 grams of suspected cocaine, cash, scales, dime bags and two cell phones.

As a result, Justin SLEEPER, age 33, of Bancroft was charged with the following:

  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order – four counts
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – two counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

Caitlyn CLANCY, age 35, of Highlands East Township was charge with the following:

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Fail to comply with an undertaking
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

Both accused were held for bail and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 9, 2026

Rachel HOGG – Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one person with impaired operation.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers received a complaint of an overdue vehicle that had also had a traffic complaint in the Peterborough area. A short time later officers located the vehicle and observed driving behaviour often displayed by impaired drivers, a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was arrested for impaired and was transported to the detachment for further testing. The results of the test showed the driver to having almost 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in their body.

Rachel HOGG, a 28-year-old resident of Brooklyn, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on January 6, 2026.

Along with this arrest the Bancroft OPP has been working hard for this years Festive R.I.D.E program, including R.I.D.E checks in Bancroft, Carlow-Mayo, and Highlands East last night alone. These programs will continue to run across the Bancroft OPP area, on the main highways AND along the back roads. Bancroft OPP reminds everyone that if you are drinking, have a designated driver or stay the night to keep the road safe for all those traveling during this holiday season.

Joseph EASTON-VAUTOUR – Assault, Theft, Etc.

(BANCROFT, ON) – The Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person following a disturbance.

On Sunday, December 7, 2025, just before 3:00 p.m. police attended an address on Valleyview Drive in the Town of Bancroft. As a result of the investigation one person was arrested and transported to the Bancroft OPP detachment.

Joseph EASTON-VAUTOUR, 34, of Bancroft has been charged with the following:

  • Assault – 2 counts
  • Assault cause bodily harm
  • Forcible confinement
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000

The accused was held for bail and remanded into custody. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bellville on December 10, 2025

Fentanyl Bust – Tanya BURRY Arrested

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one person following a traffic complaint.

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, just after 5:00 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers received a traffic complaint from a member of the public. A short time later officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired operation and was searched, which officers located over 6g of suspected fentanyl. The accused was then transported to the Bancroft OPP detachment for further testing and refused to participate in testing with a Drug Recognition Expert.

Tanya BURRY, a 35-year-old resident of Peterborough, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of a schedule I substance

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on January 6, 2026.

Jason CHAPESKIE – Assault, Extortion

(BANCROFT, ON) – The Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person following a complaint of assault.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, a member of the public attended the Bancroft OPP detachment to report an assault that had occurred the previous day. After further investigation, one person was arrested.

As a result, Jason CHAPESKIE, 34, from L’Amble has been charged with the following:

–      Assault

–      Extortion

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on January 6, 2026.

Duane LUKAWESKY – Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one person with impaired operation.

On Friday, November 21, 2025, just before 12:00 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers received a traffic complaint from a member of the public. A short time later officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. An approved screening device was used during the stop, as a result the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. The results of the test showed the driver to have more then 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in their body.

Duane LUKAWESKY, a 57-year-old resident of Bobcaygeon, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on December 23, 2025.

Craig STORRIE – Impaired Operation

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched the annual Festive RIDE program overnight, resulting in one impaired driving arrest.

Officers were conducting a RIDE program around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the intersection of Loop and Elephant Roads. One driver underwent roadside testing and was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for additional testing by an OPP drug recognition expert.

Craig STORRIE, age 46 of Haliburton, has been charged with operation while impaired – drugs.

The accused’s license has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on December 2, 2025.

Cristopher ROBINSON Was Arrested Again

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver after locating a vehicle in the ditch.

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, just before 10:30 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers attended the scene of the collision. Officers located the driver of the vehicle a short time later at which time they were arrested. The driver was transported to the detachment for testing.

As a result, Cristopher ROBINSON, a 44-year-old resident of Bancroft, has been charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Refusal to comply with demand

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on December 2, 2025.

Drug Bust – Christopher HULSMANS Arrested Again #3Strikes

(BANCROFT, ON) – An individual from western Ontario is facing drug trafficking charges after a significant drug seizure in in Bancroft.

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, shortly before 2:00 p.m., officers with the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Mill Street.

During the interaction, officers observed items typically associated with drug use. The driver was arrested and a subsequent search of the pick-up truck located more than 130 grams of suspected fentanyl, nearly 90 grams of suspected methamphetamine, nearly 15 grams of suspected crack cocaine, along with several pills suspected to be diazepam and oxycodone. Christopher HULSMANS, age 43 of London has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession of a Schedule 2 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule 4 substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Personation with intent (identity fraud)
  • Possession of an identity document
  • Failing to comply with an undertaking – six counts

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Drug Bust – Amanda CORBY &Charles TOWNSEND

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have seized over $1,000 worth of drugs during a traffic stop in the Town of Bancroft. 

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, shortly before 10:00 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle. During the investigation two people were arrested and a search of the vehicle and the arrested people located over 14 grams of suspected cocaine, cash, and a cell phone.

Amanda CORBY, age 37 and Charles TOWNSEND age 61, of Highlands East have been charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Both of the accused were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 4, 2025.

Kyle DEXTER Was Arrested Again #3Strikes

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested one person after they were found breaching conditions of a release order.

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, shortly before 6:30 p.m., officers recognized a person that had been breaching the conditions of their release order in the Town of Bancroft. When officers approached, the individual resisted arrest but was safely taken into custody when other officers arrived.

Kyle DEXTER, 38, of Hastings Highlands has been charged with the following:

·      Resist peace officer

·      Fail to comply with release order

The accused was held for bail and remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 4, 2025.
