26 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(BALDWIN TOWNSHIP, ON)- A team effort involving the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), assisted by the East Algoma OPP, the OPP’s Northeast Canine Unit, and the Mississauga First Nation Police Service, successfully led to the arrest of a wanted driver who had fled from police.

On December 18, 2024, at around 8:45 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin OPP were conducting routine patrols on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township when their automatic license plate reader (ALPR) flagged a wanted person.

Police attempted to pull over the vehicle east of the Town of Webbwood, but the sedan fled at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, the vehicle was located. As a result of the investigation Saif ALGANAHI, 26 years-old, from London, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Fail to stop for police
  • Careless driving
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on February 3, 2025.

3 Arrested At RIDE


(BALDWIN TOWSHIP, ON)- 
Police seize loaded handgun, Canadian currency and a large amount of drugs.

On September 16, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) initiative on Highway 17 in Mckerrow.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., a black Suburban entered the RIDE program. While speaking to the driver, police detected the smell of freshly burned cannabis that was emanating from inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle ensued with police locating a loaded 9mm Glock handgun, ammunition, over $1200 in Canadian currency, suspected cannabis marihuana, over four kilos of suspected cocaine, over 2400 tablets of suspected Hydromorphone tablets (approximate street value of the drugs $300,000).

As a result, the driver, Shahab, STANIKZAI, 43 years-old from Irondale, was charged with:

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid (other than heroin)
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The front passenger Ali HAMAT, 40 years-old from Mississauga was charged with:

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid (other than heroin)

The rear passenger Manasseh OSEI TUTU, 30 years-old from Brampton was charged with:

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid (other than heroin)

The three (3) accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Espanola on September 16, 2024, and were remanded into custody.

Eli TOULOUSE – Drunk Driving

(BALDWIN TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On April 26, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township. A vehicle entered the program and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Eli TOULOUSE, 44-years-old from Sagamok First Nation has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on June 10, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
