Jake O’SHAUGHNESSY – Armed Robbery, Assault, Etc.

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person remains in custody following incident in Arthur.

On February 5, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), alongside the West Region Emergency Response Team and the West Region Canine Unit, received a report of an altercation that occurred two days prior on January 3, 2026, at an address on Tucker Street in Arthur.

As a result of the investigation, Jake O’SHAUGHNESSY, a 31-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Break and enter house – commit indictable offence
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than attend court
  • Breach of Recognizance

One victim sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Burke SEEHAVER Was Arrested

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – An Arthur driver is charged following a traffic stop.

On February 2, 2026, at approximately 12:15 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Wellington Road 109 in Arthur, when the cruiser’s Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) alerted the officer of a potential suspended driver.

As a result of the investigation, Burke SEEHAVER, a 35-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on March 20, 2026.

Violent Home Invasion – Aaron SCHMITT Arrested

(NORTH WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been charged following an incident in Arthur.

On January 26, 2026, at approximately 4:15 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of an altercation at an address in Arthur.

As a result of the investigation, Aaron SCHMITT, a 38-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Assault

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The victim did not sustain any reported injuries.

Home Invasion In Mount Forest – Ashley HOTCHKISS & Paul SMYTH Arrested

(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest and charge two individuals in connection with a break and enter within Mount Forest.

On October 29, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Wellington County OPP were dispatched to an active break and enter which occurred at a local vacant residence on Birmingham Street West within Mount Forest.

As police arrived on scene, and as a result of the investigation, Ashley HOTCHKISS, a 33-year-old of Arthur is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Enter premises when entry prohibited
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Additionally, Paul SMYTH, a 49-year-old of Mount Forest is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – cocaine

The accused has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on December 5, 2025.

Another Uninjured Officer Claims Assaulted – Citizen Injured #FilmThePolice #FTP

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – One individual has been charged following an incident in Arthur.

On October 21, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an altercation at a residence on George Street in Arthur. Officers formed grounds to arrest the subject of the complaint. While being arrested, the accused assaulted a Wellington County OPP officer.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was assessed by local paramedic services. The police officer did not sustain any injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Sean STROUD, a 59-year-old from Arthur, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault a peace officer
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with undertaking

The accused was held in police custody, pending a bail hearing.
