Hwy 11 Drug Bust

(ARMOUR TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people with multiple drug related offences after a traffic stop.

On Thursday April 17, 2025, approximately 8:40 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a suspended driver hit by the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 in the Township of Armour, further to the investigation, resulted in both the driver and passenger being arrested.

Additionally, police seized amounts of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, Oxycodone pills, digital scale, baggies, debt list, and cell phones were seized. The estimated street value for the drugs seized was approximately $20,000.00. 

As a result, Andre LAVIGNE, 37-years-old of West Nipissing was charged with the following:

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Driving while under suspension

In addition, Onofrio DI PISA, 56-year-old of West Nipissing has also been charged with:

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine

Both accused persons were held for a bail hearing.

Duct Tape Driver’s Side Window Results In Charges

(ARMOUR TOWNSHIP, ON) – Almaguin Highlands OPP charge a commercial vehicle driver after they were caught using duct tape as a makeshift replacement for a broken driver’s side window. 

On December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint from a concerned motorist who reported a commercial vehicle which appeared to be using duct tape as a replacement for a drivers side window. Officers responded to the complaint and quickly located the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old person from Brampton was later charged with:

  • No clear view to sides
  • Improper mirror – commercial motor vehicle
  • Careless Driving
  • Fail to report accident

The vehicle was determined to be unsafe for travel and was promptly removed from the roadway. The accused is to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Sundridge at a later date.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) advises anyone with an urgent traffic complaint or concerns that someone may be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol to call 911 immediately.

Cody BIRKMYRE Was Arrested

(Armour Township, ON) – A traffic stop in Armour Township results in stunt driving and refusal charge.

On October 27, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11, Armour Township after observing a vehicle travelling at 41 kilometers over the posted speed limit.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined they had consumed alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to a nearby detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Cody BIRKMYRE, 30 years of age of Port Colborne, was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 14, 2024, in Sundridge.

The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Under the Criminal Code, refusal to comply with a lawful demand to provide breath sample or submit to a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) without a reasonable excuse is a criminal offence, carrying the same penalties as impaired driving.
