Collision Closes Hwy 21

(BRUCE TWP, ON) – On January 27, 2023, at 12:45 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision along Highway 21 in Bruce Township.

Officers responded to the scene with members of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find a propane delivery truck and a passenger vehicle involved in the crash.

The vehicle driver was extricated by members of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services. They were taken to a local hospital by EMS, then air-lifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

The South Bruce OPP is continuing to investigate the collision along with members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team.

Highway 21 was closed between Concession 8 and Concession 10, Bruce Township for the protection of emergency responders. It has re-opened for traffic.

The investigation is continuing.

HAEFNER Arrested Following Dog Fight

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On January 27, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault at the Guelph Lake Sports Fields on Woodlawn Road East, Guelph. It was reported that one person was assaulted by another person after their pets had been in an altercation. The victim declined medical attention and there were no reports of injuries to any animal.

The Wellington County OPP released a photo of one of the persons involved in an attempt to identify them and would like to thank the members of the public who came forward to assist with the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Steven James HAEFNER, 40-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.

Another Motorcyclist Killed – 80 Year Old Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 20, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision at the intersection of Highway 6 and Wellington Road 38, north of Guelph. Initial reports indicated that a motorcycle and a sedan had collided and that there were serious injuries.

The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at scene. The operator of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Rosalind FERNEYHOUGH, 80-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Death contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.

John WOOD Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On January 28, 2023, just before 8:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped and investigated a motor vehicle that the officer knew to be owned and operated by a suspended driver on St. Andrew Street in the Municipality of West Perth.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test and was subsequently arrested and transported to a local operations centre for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.   

As a result, John WOOD, 65, of West Perth, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

Atwood Business Ransacked

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a break and enter at a Main Street address in Atwood, in the Municipality of North Perth.  

Sometime between 3:00 p.m. on January 27, 2023, and 7:30 a.m. on January 28, 2023, unknown person(s) attended the address and gained entry to the business. Once inside, unknown(s) tip tables, extinguishers were set off and BBQ sauce was put on multiple walls.  

Police are continuing to investigate and ask the public to report suspicious activity immediately, and remember to lock doors to vehicles, houses, garages, and sheds. Do not leave keys with vehicles, including ATVs. Consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms.

19 Year Old From Blyth Charged After Hit & Run

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Blyth resident for fail to remain at collision.   

On January 28, 2023, just before 1:00 p.m.., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-motor vehicle collision on Perth Road 180 in the Municipality of West Perth.     

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that a pickup truck was travelling Northbound when they were side swiped by another pickup truck travelling southbound. The truck stopped initially than fled the scene. Minor injuries were reported.

A 19-year-old from Blyth has been charged with:

–      Fail to report accident

–      Fail to remain

The accused was issued a Provincial Notice for each offence.

McGRATH Arrested For Drunk Driving

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a traffic stop in Brussels on January 20th at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Turnberry Street. 

Huron County OPP was conducting general patrol on Turnberry Street in Brussels in the Municipality of Huron East on the afternoon of Friday, January 20th when an OPP officer conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle. In speaking with the driver, the officer had reasonable grounds to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving. The driver provided a breath sample into the roadside screening device which resulted in a “Fail”. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP detachment for further breath tests. Samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and those samples were found to be over the legal limit. 

Gregory McGRATH, 37 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 3rd, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

PALMER Arrested For Drunk Driving

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired related offences following a traffic complaint.

On January 23, 2023, just after 11:45 p.m., The Grey Bruce OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a northbound motor vehicle on Highway 10 in the Township of Chatsworth.

Officers located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of impairment and the driver was placed under arrest. The driver was then transported to a Grey Bruce OPP station for further testing.

The Grey Bruce OPP have charged Aaron PALMER, 32 years-of-age from Owen Sound with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.

Goderich Robbery Update: Arrests Made

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit continues to investigate a robbery that took place in Goderich on January 23, 2023, at a business on Huron Road. 

On Monday, January 23, 2023, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Huron County OPP was contacted by a store manager who called to report a robbery that had just taken place. Two suspects, a male and female had reportedly stolen numerous items from the store and loaded the items into a smaller SUV just outside the building. During the robbery, the male suspect brandished a knife and threatened the employees who had given chase after the thieves. The male suspect also threatened the employees with a gun; however, one was not observed. The vehicle was last seen travelling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot and eastbound onto Huron Road leaving Goderich. 

After viewing media posts yesterday, two very observant citizens contacted the Huron OPP advising of the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle, and two suspects involved in this investigation. Police were able to locate and arrest both suspects who are now facing criminal charges. The suspect Chevrolet Tracker has been seized pending further investigation.

FINKBEINER Arrested For Drunk Driving Following Collision With Hay Wagon

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London resident with Impaired driving offences following a collision on January 24th at approximately 6:05 p.m. 

Huron County OPP, South Huron Fire Department and Huron County Paramedic Services were called to the scene of a collision on January 24th, 2023, just after 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, emergency services discovered that a single vehicle had impacted the rear of a loaded hay wagon being towed by a tractor east of Exeter on Thames Road at Elimville Line, causing considerable damage to the involved sport utility vehicle (SUV). The lone female driver was transported to hospital for serious injuries.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that she had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation. After receiving medical treatment at the South Huron Hospital and London Health Sciences Centre, the driver eventually provided breath samples to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Bryden FINKBEINER, 49 years of age from London has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 17th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Aaron BAXTER – Theft

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On January 20, 2022, at approximately 9:17 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported theft from new builds on MClaren Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth.  

It was reported that on January 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. a male attended the area and removed a video camera while crews were working inside at the construction site.

As a result, Aaron BAXTER, a 38 year-old from Grand Valley has been charged with:

–      Theft under $5,000

Robbery In Goderich – Suspects At Large – Armed & Dangerous

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit is investigating a robbery that took place in Goderich on January 23, 2023, at a business on Huron Road.

The vehicle was last seen travelling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot and eastbound onto Huron Road leaving Goderich. 

The suspects pictured in the images below are described as follows:

Male suspect: Approximately 30 years of age, Caucasian, 6′ tall, short hair, brown beard, eyeglasses. Wearing a black and white “NIKE’ track suit, a black baseball hat with a green brim, and black running shoes. (Note – 2nd photo shows suspect wearing a brown jacket that was stolen from store).

Female suspect: Approximately 30 years of age, Caucasian, 5’5″ tall, red died hair. Wearing a pink jacket, black toque, black tights, and black boots with fur tops.

Involved vehicle: Small, older model sport utility vehicle (SUV), possibly a GMC/Chevrolet Tracker four-door model with a spare tire on rear. A small plow attachment was affixed to the front of the SUV. The front right wheel rim is either black or rusty. The vehicle is believed to be a manual transmission and has a noisy exhaust.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance should they have any knowledge of this incident, suspects, or involved vehicle.

School Bus Involved In Collision

(FORMOSA, ON) – On January 24, 2023, at 3:53 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision, involving a school bus, along Bruce County Road 12 in the village of Formosa.

Officers arrived to find that the school bus was stopped to make a turn when it was struck from behind.

There were students on board at the time, but there were no injuries reported at the scene.

A 30-year-old resident of Unionville was charged with Careless Driving.

Fatal Collision Update – Deceased Identified

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On January 23, 2023, at 4:47 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment, Perth County Paramedic Services and North Perth Fire Department responded to a collision on Perth Line 55 involving two vehicles.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The deceased has been identified as 67-year-old, Lawrence HEWITT of Harriston. 

The OPP Traffic Incident Management (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Perth Line 55 was closed between Road 154 and Road 155 for the protection of emergency responders. It has since re-opened for traffic.

Belgrave Meth Bust – DIXON

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with several offences after entering a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on January 15th

Huron OPP officers were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on January 15th on Queen Street in Belgrave when a northbound minivan entered the checkpoint at approximately 9:20 p.m. In speaking with the female driver, officers had reason to believe that the driver was impaired by drug, and she was subsequently arrested. A quantity of suspected methamphetamine was found on the driver during a search.

The accused was then transported to the Walkerton OPP Detachment for further tests by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert.  

Further investigation revealed that the driver was also suspended from driving.

Tamara DIXON, 23 years-of-age from Huron East has been charged with the following offences:

–      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) for Driving While Under Suspension.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 27th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
