Matthew KOCHAN – Trespass at Night

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On January 2, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a male breaking into vehicles in the area of Hartfield Drive and Wellington Road 7 in Guelph-Eramosa Township. The suspect was described as a Caucasian older male, with a white beard wearing a black hat and a reflective jacket, carrying a knapsack and riding a bicycle. The suspect fled when approached by the witness.

Police patrolled the area and observed other residences with footprints up the driveway, around the vehicles and back to the roadway. 

Officers located an individual a short distance away that matched the description and they were placed under arrest.  

Matthew KOCHAN, 48-years-old of no fixed address has been charged with Trespass at Night and Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 2, 2021 to answer to the charge.

27 Year Old Attempts To Pull Gun On Officer – Name Released

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A traffic stop just before Christmas resulted in a Mitchell resident facing a weapons charge.

On December 20 2020, just before 9:00 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Line 34 to check the sobriety of the driver. While speaking with the occupant of the vehicle, the driver was observed reaching for an object under the seat. The driver fumbled and dropped the object, which was determined to be an imitation hand gun.

As a result, Kyle Alexander PICKERING, 27, of West Perth, has been charged with:

  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Fatal Collision Closes Intersection

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Wednesday January 6, 2021 at approximately 12:35 p.m. Members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex Centre Fire and Middlesex London EMS responded to reports of a serious two vehicle collision at the intersection of Ilderton Rd. and Adelaide St. N, Middlesex Centre.

Police are currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation but have confirmed that one person has died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision and two parties have been transported to hospital with serious injuries.  

The OPP Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) team has been deployed to the area, to assist with the on-going investigation. The intersection has been closed to the public and is expected to be closed for the next 7-8 hours as the investigation continues. Adelaide St. N is closed between 10 and 12 Mile Rd. while Ilderton Rd. has been closed between Richmond St. and Highbury Ave.

Police are asking the public to slow down in the area, take an alternate route and expect delays as the investigation continues.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority. 18 Year Old From Central Huron Has 02Feb Court Date

(HURON EAST, ON) – A resident of Central Huron is facing a Racing charge following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on New Year’s Eve. 

On Thursday, December 31, 2020 at approximately 3:44 p.m. a Huron OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement patrols on Huron Road near Kinburn Line when a motor vehicle was observed travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The speed of the vehicle was measured with a radar unit and the speed was confirmed to be in excess of 50 km/h over the 80 km/h speed limit. 

Kaylee SNELL, 18 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed. A court date has been set for February 2, 2021 at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich.

Methamphetamine Bust On Blyth Road – Name Released

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A Huron East resident will have to attend court later this year to answer to a drug possession charge following an investigation conducted by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment. 

On December 31, 2020 at approximately 10:10 p.m. a vehicle entered into a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint located on Blyth Road. Immediately upon speaking with the driver officers noted drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A search was conducted and the driver was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. 

Shaun JAMIESON, 38 years of age, from Seaforth has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. He was released from custody with a court date scheduled for February 22, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Another Drunk Driver 2x Limit – Name Released

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On December 29, 2020 at 10:04 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located a vehicle near a residence on the 9th Line, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

OPP officers spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Markdale. A breath test recorded readings over twice the legal limit of 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Manny NEUBACHER, 50 years-of-age, from Minden Hills Township, with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 11, 2021.

31 Year Old Drunk Driver Caught Going 2X Speed Limit

(COUNTY of BRANT, ON) – A member of the County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) came upon a vehicle travelling a high rate of speed while on general patrol on January 6, 2021 at approximately 2:55 a.m. on Brant Road in the County of Brant.

The vehicle was stopped and police determined through investigation that the driver had been drinking alcohol and the driver was arrested.

OPP investigators have charged Elizabeth SPURGEON 31-years-old of the Region of Waterloo with driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in their blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Because the vehicle was captured on radar travelling at more than double the posted 80 km/h speed limit the driver was also charged the following offences contrary to the Highway Traffic act of Ontario:

  • Adult race a motor vehicle -excessive speed Sec 172(1)
  • Adult speed 50= km over the posted speed limit Sec 128

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date to answer to the charge. If convicted, the offender will be subject to the Criminal Code penalties, including a fine or jail time, and a driving prohibition.

HALLAHAN Arrested New Year’s Day

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – It didn’t take long for Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to lay their first Impaired Operation charge of 2021. A traffic stop at approximately 1:40 a.m. on New Year’s Day resulted in an arrest and a charge for a Morris-Turnberry resident.

Huron County OPP officers were patrolling in Morris-Turnberry when they spotted a vehicle making a wide turn from Moncrieff Road onto London Road. A traffic stop was initiated and police spoke with the driver. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail.

Upon failing his test he was taken into custody and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were analyzed by the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.

Paul HALLAHAN, 50 years of age from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80) Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Drunk Driver Stopped In Middle Of Road 2x Legal Limit – Name Released

(WEST GREY, ON) – On December 28, 2020 at 3:25 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Grey Road 12, just outside of the Village of Markdale.  

OPP officers spoke with the driver, who displayed obvious signs of impairment, so they were arrested for impaired driving. The driver was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Chatsworth. A breath test conducted at the detachment, recorded readings over twice the legal limit of 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Joshua SPARKS, 39 years-of-age, from West Grey, ON with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 4, 2021.

51 Year Old From Lucknow Facing Impaired Driving Charge

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A Lucknow resident has been charged with Impaired Operation following a collision investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

At approximately 6:07 p.m. on December 27, 2020 Huron OPP members responded to a report of a single vehicle collision located on Donnybrook Line near Bruce Road 86. Upon arrival police located a vehicle that had been driven off the roadway into the snow filled ditch. Upon being cleared by EMS the investigating officer spoke with the driver and became suspicious the driver may have been impaired by a drug. 

A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was completed on the driver and the accused performed poorly. The accused was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Tillsonburg OPP Detachment where he completed a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation. Upon completion of the evaluation the DRE deemed the driver to be impaired by a drug. 

Robin WELLSTEAD, 51 years of age from Lucknow has been charged with Operation While Impaired. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 8, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

74 Year Old From Huron East Arrested For Drunk Driving

(HURON EAST, ON) – A traffic complaint investigated by members of the Huron County and Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments has resulted in an Impaired Driving charge against a Huron East resident. 

On Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at approximately 3:05 p.m. Huron OPP received information about a vehicle that was travelling in an erratic manner on Hensall Road west of Seaforth. Minutes later officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle parked at a residence located on Hensall Road. Officers were able to identify the driver and upon speaking with the driver they noted the driver to be displaying some signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and was transported to the Clinton OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver supplied two samples of her breath to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were analyzed to be over the legal limit.

Barbara LYCAN, 74 years of age, from Huron East has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. She was later released from custody and now has a court appearance scheduled for February 1, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Arrest Made In Violent Home Invasion – Name Released

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment is investigating following a robbery at a residence on Munsee Street North in Cayuga, Haldimand County, Ontario.   

On Monday November 16, 2020 at 7:05 a.m., OPP responded to Munsee Street North for a report of a robbery at a residence.  

OPP investigation determined that on Monday November, 2020 shortly after 5:05 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the residence through an insecure door and proceeded to restrain the victim.

While the victim was restrained, the suspect removed jewelry, Canadian currency and various hunting and fishing knives from the residence before fleeing the area.

The victim was able to free themselves and get to a neighbour’s residence where they called 9-1-1.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as a male, tall, 20-30 years old, wearing a red scarf over their face.

Throughout the ongoing investigation, members of the Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit have identified individuals involved.

On Monday January 4, 2021, with the assistance of London Police Service and Six Nations Police Service, OPP charged 45-year-old Jodi SIMPSON of Townsend, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Robbery using a firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Use of credit card

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga.

Members of the Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit continue to investigate and anticipate further arrests.

(MEAFORD, ON) – On December 26, 2020 at 7:25 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision involving a sport utility vehicle that was stuck in the ditch on the 2nd Concession, near Sideroad 22, in the Municipality of Meaford.

OPP officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Chatsworth. A breath test recorded readings over twice the legal limit of 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Shane GURNEY, 48 years-of-age, from Owen Sound with operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 18, 2021.

Drunk Driver Ends Up On Front Lawn – TUOHY

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On December 31, 2020, at approximately 9:05 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 124 near the Fourth Line of Guelph-Eramosa Township. It was reported that a motor vehicle had left the roadway, entered a ditch and came to rest on the front lawn of a residence. The vehicle was observed being removed by a tow truck.

Police located the vehicle and spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Kyle Patrick TUOHY, 22-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

 A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on February 5, 2021.

Taxi Driver Robbed – MCPHERSON Arrested

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) -Members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported robbery on William Street in Paris in the County of Brant at approximately 5:10 a.m. on January 4, 2021.

County of Brant OPP members attended and determined that an altercation took place in a taxi cab between the driver and a customer. During the altercation the driver’s purse containing personal property was taken and the suspect fled the area on foot.

Police located and arrested the suspect a short distance from the incident.

County of Brant OPP have charged Wesley MCPHERSON 30-years-old of the County of Brant with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Robbery Section 344(1)(b)
  • Assault Section 266

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date to answer to the charges
