(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service will be hosting a Women-Only Information Session and PREP Test workshop on the OACP Constable Selection Process for women interested in a policing career.

The session is designed to educate potential candidates about the Constable Selection Process. The practice sessions will also give the participants an opportunity to see if they can meet the physical requirements of the job.

The session will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2014 between 9 am to 1 pm at Algonquin College Woodroffe Campus, P building, 1385 Woodroffe Avenue.

Gym attire is required. If you are 40 years of age or older, a PARMED X will be required by your doctor.

In order to attend the session, you must pre-register online as space is limited. Please note you will need to receive a confirmation e-mail prior to attending.

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating two separate convenience store robberies in south Ottawa.

On May 15, 2014, at approximately 8:00 pm, a lone male entered a convenience store situated along the 2300 block of St. Andrew St. in North Gower. The suspect, armed with a knife, approached a store employee and made a demand for money. The suspect obtained an undisclosed quantity of cash and left the store. There were no injuries.

On May 20, 2014, at approximately 5:10 pm, the same lone male entered a convenience store situated along the 5500 block of Osgoode Main St in Osgoode. The suspect, armed with a knife, approached a store employee and made a demand for money. The suspect obtained an undisclosed quantity of cash and left the store. There were no injuries. The suspect fled to what is described as a possibly being a gold coloured Nissan Altima. The victim of the robbery followed the suspect out of the store and repeatedly struck the passenger side windshield of the vehicle causing significant damage to the windshield.

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, 40-50 years of age, 6’0”(183cm)- 6’4”(193cm) tall, medium build with a potbelly, medium length “salt & pepper” coloured hair and English speaking. On both occasions he wore a light coloured baseball cap with an oval shaped logo on the front (see attached images).

The extent of damage to the windshield would necessitate it being repaired. Anyone with information about a repair, on a vehicle as described, is asked to contact Police.

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a sexual assault that occurred on a green space between Claridge Drive and Longfields Drive in Barrhaven.

On May 27, 2014 at approximately 2:00am, a 19-year-old female was walking alone when she was approached by two males and sexually assaulted. The victim was able to run away from her attackers. Residents of the area heard a commotion and called 911.

Responding officers did not locate the male suspects, who had fled the scene.

The males are described as Caucasian, mid 20’s, wearing baggy pants possibly driving a small vehicle.

(Ottawa) On Thursday, May 22 2014, Ottawa Police Service East District investigators charged two men with damaging political electoral signs.

In the early morning hours of May 22, two men were walking in the Southmore Drive/McCarthy Road area and lit several signs on fire belonging to an election’s candidate.

A witness called Police and Fire and the two men were seen fleeing the scene by attending Ottawa Fire Fighters. Police officers attended the area and arrested both men.

Thomas WALLIS, 19 years old, of Ottawa and Grayden DREW, 18 years old, of Ottawa, have both been charged with one count of Mischief to property. They were released on a Promise to Appear.

Police investigators have determined that there is no indication that WALLIS or DREW were targeting any particular political party; and this appears to be a random act.

Ottawa Police would like to remind the public that the damaging of political signs is a criminal offense.
