(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On October 14, 2020 at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an attempted theft at a residence on Woolwich-Guelph Townline in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

The homeowner observed two suspicious vehicles on the property at approximately 4:30 a.m. It was reported that one of the suspects was attempting to enter a parked vehicle in the driveway.

The suspects fled in the two vehicles after being confronted by the homeowner. One of the vehicles, a black HONDA CRV, rammed the homeowner’s vehicle several times before fleeing the area.

Both vehicles were reported stolen on the same date and have since been recovered.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On October 24, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m. a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop of a pick-up truck on Bridge Street in Elora.

Police spoke with the driver and formed the opinion that they had alcohol in their system. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Jennifer Mae O’GORMAN, 46-years-old of Arthur has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code and Driving with Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on November 27, 2020.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding seasonal property owners to ensure their valuables are removed and the property is properly secured to prevent potential break-ins and thefts.

This reminder comes after two cottages along Golf Course Trail in Kincardine and four cottages along Bruce Beach Road in Huron Township were broken into sometime between October 16, 2020 and October 19, 2020.

The list of stolen property includes a Hisense big screen TV, a Panasonic plasma TV, power tools and a Bose surround sound system.

The OPP encourage property owners to frequently check, or have someone check on their seasonal properties during the off-season”.

Consider engraving valuables with an identifier using an engraver or permanent marker to deter criminals from stealing them. It will also make it easier for Police to return property to the rightful owner if recovered.

(CULROSS TWP, ON) – On October 25, 2020 at 12:56 a.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on patrol stopped a vehicle along Concession 12 in Culross Township. The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Timothy MILLER, 38-years-old, of Greenock Township was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams and Drive while under suspension. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on December 23, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On October 23, 2020 at 11:22 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a fraud report from a resident of Huron-Kinloss Township. The romance scam typically starts online through email or a social media platform, the casual conversation quickly becomes deeply affectionate in an effort to get your money. This scam attempt was successful as $6,500 was sent.

Tech-savvy scammers use technology to create very convincing schemes to trick you into sending them money. They will commonly use the name of a real company in order to gain your trust so that you will send money or personal information to them. They will also toy with your emotions by posting cute pet pictures or pretending to have a romantic interest in you in order to take your money.

Your best defence against fraud is to always verify an unsolicited contact. Unsolicited means that you didn’t ask for it.

Fraud is a multi-million dollar enterprise that will only end when they stop making money.

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On October 23, 2019 at 3:09 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a business at Scotch Settlement Road, Saugeen First Nation for a 27 year old female with vital signs absent.

OPP officers attended the address with Bruce County Paramedics. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the Grey Bruce OPP, Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Unit continue to investigate the occurrence.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On October 19, 2020 at approximately 6:52 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft incident that occurred at a business on Wellington Road 32 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

It was reported that sometime between October 18, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. and October 19, 2020 at 6:00 a.m. unknown suspects gained access into the business by prying open the exterior steel door as well as an interior door which lead to where the wire was being stored. The value of the stolen copper wire is approximately $100,000.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A conducted energy weapon has been seized after an assault in Listowel earlier this month.

On October 07, 2020, just before 4:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a parking lot of a residence on Barber Avenue North, in the Municipality of North Perth, after a person was threatened with a conducted energy weapon.

No one was injured during the incident.

As a result, Christopher OUELLETTE, 30, of Palmerston, has been charged with:

Failure to Comply with Release Order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On October 21, 2020 at 12:17 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle occurrence on a rural property at Concession 2, in the Township of Chatsworth.

A (black) car was observed driving on the trails at this property. Police patrolled the area and located a driver sleeping behind the wheel of this motor vehicle. The driver was displaying signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. They were transported to the Huronia West OPP detachment. A Drug Recognition Expert completed an evaluation with this driver.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Christopher MILLETT, 32 years-of-age from Collingwood, ON with the following offences:

Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Cocaine, section 4(1) CDSA

Five counts of failing to comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC

Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000., section 354(1)(a) CC

The involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 7 days.

The accused was held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 22, 2020.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – An arrest by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment has put a dent in the local supply of Fentanyl.

On October 8, 2020 at approximately 9:36 p.m. Huron OPP officers were engaged in community patrols in Exeter when they came noticed a man acting suspiciously on Victoria Street West. The officer attempted to speak with the individual however he immediately took off running through several residential backyards on William Street. After a short chase police located and took the suspect into custody.

A search incident to arrest found the accused to be in possession of Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $14,790. Additionally, the accused was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Kyle LENSSEN, 33 years of age from West Perth has been charged with Trespassing at Night, Fail to Comply With Release Order (2 counts), Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl) for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine and Resist Peace Officer.

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – A resident of Lucknow is facing several criminal charges following an investigation by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at approximately 10:38 a.m. a Huron OPP officer was in the Town of Wingham when he observed a sport utility vehicle that matched the description of a stolen GMC Yukon.

The officer was able to confirm the vehicle was stolen however the driver took off and fled from the officer. The officer did not pursue the stolen vehicle however following some investigation police were able to identify the involved driver and he was located later that afternoon in the Town of Goderich.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. officers arrested the suspect on East Street in the Town of Goderich for possession of the stolen vehicle. Upon arrest officers searched the accused and found him to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. The stolen sport utility vehicle was recovered in close vicinity to the accused.

He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 26, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A call to police from an employee working a drive-thru helped police remove an impaired driver from the roads as well it resulted in police taking some drugs off the street.

On Tuesday, October 20th, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a restaurant located on Main Street North in Exeter to investigate a possible impaired driver that was just served in the drive-thru.

Minutes later officers arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle parked at the restaurant. The investigating officer spoke with the car driver and upon doing so he became suspicious the driver was possibly impaired by a drug. A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted at the scene. The driver performed poorly and was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation.

The driver was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he later performed tests conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) and it was deemed by the DRE the driver was impaired by a drug.

A search incident to arrest of the motor vehicle resulted in police locating a quantity of cannabis well over the legal limit as well as some suspected Fentanyl. In addition, while police were attempting to identify the passenger of the vehicle she took off running from the officer and attempted to flee. The alert officer gave chase and was able to take her into custody.

The driver, Justin BEATTIE, 39 years of age from South Huron was charged with Impaired Operation, Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking – Fentanyl and Possession for the Purposes of Distributing Cannabis under the Cannabis Act. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 14, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

The passenger, Dayna STANLEY, 27 years of age from Kingsville has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking – Fentanyl, Possession for the Purposes of Distributing Cannabis under the Cannabis Act, Obstruct Peace Officer and Fail to Comply with Release Order. The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On October 20, 2020 at approximately 9:30 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a pick-up truck for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Indian Trail north of Eden Mills.

It was reported that the driver had two different licence plates attached to the truck.

Police also discovered that the driver was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code of Canada and had their licence suspended under the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle Collin GAMMIE, 35-years-old of Guelph, faces the following charges:

Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle (2 counts)

Operating a Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on November 24, 2020. Their vehicle was seized for a period of 45 days as per statute.

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating the theft of a trailer that was stolen from a property in Blyth this past weekend.

The trailer had been parked beside a shed near the rail trail in Blyth. The trailer was taken sometime between 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 18th and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October, 20th.

The trailer is described as a red, homemade, 20 foot long, dual axle flatbed trailer with 1 foot high metal sides.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 24-year-old from Lucan-Biddulph Township with Impaired Operation and Operation 80 Plus following a crash with a hydro pole this past weekend.

At approximately 4:43 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2020 Lambton County OPP, Huron County OPP and Middlesex County Paramedic Services responded to the single vehicle collision located on Shipka Line.

Upon arrival officers located a demolished sedan that had left the roadway and struck a hydro pole. The driver was able to escape the crash uninjured however upon speaking with the driver officers noted he had been drinking alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment. As a result, police arrested the driver for Impaired Operation and transported him from the scene to the Grand Bend OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were analyzed to be over the legal limit.

Shawn SOCHOLOTIUK, 24 years of age from Lucan-Biddulph Township has been charged with Impaired Operation and Operation 80 Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

The costs to repair the damaged hydro pole is estimated at $8,000.
