NOTE: There are 425 municipalities in Ontario with a lower tax rate than Wingham, crashing property values and wiping out families.
This has resulted in families forced to sell at a loss, as they flee back to the Cities for opportunities and more affordable living.
As the chart shows below, North Huron has the highest tax rate in the area, double that of Perth East, and nearly triple that of Toronto and other Cities.

I know 3 other families that have lost their life savings by buying in Wingham….they have lost everything, and can’t get an offer on their house. DON’T DO IT PEOPLE, don’t move to Wingham! Live anywhere else, there are 425 better municipalities to live in! Yeah, a bad banana. City Council and staff shouldn’t dare to ever ask for a raise until they deliver average or near average rural tax rates. That is the primary measure of their accomplishments. I’ve seen the real estate market and while I’m still happy about my home purchase, I’d be devastated if I were planning to sell, and may yet become devastated if they reassess my property higher (which might force me to sell and if I couldn’t sell @ reassess price I’d fight it). They’ve put many people into harms way with tax abuse, retirees on fixed income can’t afford, low income families out, rental rates must continually increase to cover costs without many non retail good jobs to pay those increased rents/taxes.
