Snow Squall Watch in effect for:
- Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County
Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate. Lake effect snow squalls forecast beginning Wednesday afternoon.
Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 10 to 20 cm by Thursday evening. Additional accumulations possible Thursday night. Poor visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Timing: Beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday night. Additional snow squalls possible Thursday and Thursday night.
Discussion: Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Huron are forecast to develop once again in the wake of a low pressure system. Strong northwest winds gusting up to 50 or 60 km/h will accompany the snow squalls resulting in blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility at times.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
