Huron County Victim Out $49,000 USD #CrimeDoesPay

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a recent scam that took place in South Huron.

On September 16, 2025, Huron OPP received information about an online fraud in South Huron where a 48-year-old victim lost $49,000 U.S. between April 2025 and September 2025.

Police were advised that the victim met the suspect on a popular online communication application (app). The suspect convinced the victim to send money for investments in gold. The victim was promised high returns on their investment. After sending almost all their money, the victim advised they were threatened by the suspect to send more money or be sent to jail.

The victim then realized that they had been scammed.
