It is within council’s power to grant permission for the Farmer’s Market to use the parking lot at the Complex. Council could also instruct town staff to make sure the Town’s insurance would cover the Market, which it likely does. If council takes this two tiny steps tonight, the Wingham Farmer’s Market could open on May 24 or 31.
The surface of the parking lot cost tax payers over a million dollars, and is virtually empty Saturday mornings. Allowing the Farmer’s Market to locate there will cost the taxpayer’s nothing, and the positive effects it will have on our community will be tremendous.
Several members of the steering committee believe the Farmer’s Market could open on May 24 or 31, 2014. Several Vendors are very eager to start selling at a Wingham Farmer’s Market, and scores of volunteers are willing to donate their time and effort to make sure this quickly comes to fruition. There is no reason this can’t be a zero budget” project
