Marihuana & Cash Seized

Two men have been charged after the London Police Service seized more than $180,000 worth of drugs and cash.

On May 21, 2014, members of the Guns and Drugs Section, consisting of members of the London Police Service and RCMP, conducted two vehicle stops and located a total of eight pounds of marihuana and approximately $30,000 in Canadian currency.

Two search warrants were subsequently executed – one at a residence on Huron Street and another at a residence on Garibaldi Avenue. Seized from the Garibaldi Avenue residence were 3,148 grams of marihuana, valued at $31,480 and approximately $90,000 in Canadian currency.

Total seized:
– Approximately $120,000 Canadian currency
– 15 pounds of marihuana – $68,000
– 2002 Subaru WRX STi – $10,000
– 2000 Honda Accord – $5,000

As a result of the investigation, Hai Tran, 34 years of London and Matthew Ruby, 22 years of Simcoe, Ontario, has been charged with the following Controlled Drug and Substances Act offences:
– Traffic in Schedule II substance, contrary to section 5(1); and
– Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2).

Hai Tran is further charged with the following offences:
– A second count of possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
– Two counts of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
