Non-emergency 911 calls

Occurrence #: Several
Date: Monday, June 2, 2014 – 3:30pm
In the last 24 hours, the Barrie Police Service received over 30 non-emergency 911 calls. Several of these calls were “pocket dials”, often with Blackberry devices. Barrie Police Service invests significant time investigating and responding to these accidental calls. 911 is for police, fire, or medical emergencies when immediate action is required: someone’s health, safety or property is in jeopardy or a crime is in progress. Barrie Police Service asks citizens to program the non-emergency Barrie Police number of 705-725-7025 into their phones, to use for non-emergency police occurrences. Also, police ask that everyone store their cellular phone in a location where the emergency button/911 dial cannot be accidentally struck.
