Occurrence #: Several
Date: Monday, June 2, 2014 – 3:30pm
In the last 24 hours, the Barrie Police Service received over 30 non-emergency 911 calls. Several of these calls were “pocket dialsâ€Â, often with Blackberry devices. Barrie Police Service invests significant time investigating and responding to these accidental calls. 911 is for police, fire, or medical emergencies when immediate action is required: someone’s health, safety or property is in jeopardy or a crime is in progress. Barrie Police Service asks citizens to program the non-emergency Barrie Police number of 705-725-7025 into their phones, to use for non-emergency police occurrences. Also, police ask that everyone store their cellular phone in a location where the emergency button/911 dial cannot be accidentally struck.
