2014 ONTARIO LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Tomorrow morning several communities throughout Huron County will play host to our Special Olympians. The 2014 Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is one of the largest fundraisers for our Special Olympics Program.

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch run is a community based, province-wide event that sees the “Flame of Hope” carried across Ontario by members of law enforcement agencies from across the province. The run is held to raise funds and awareness of the Special Olympics movement in Ontario. Funds raised will be used to assist athletes at the 2014 Canada Special Olympics being held in Vancouver between July 8th – 13th.

The Huron County Torch Run will get underway Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Wingham Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment. Participants will be transported to Blyth, Clinton and Goderich to complete a non-competitive run/walk/stroll in each of those communities. And to top it off, a celebration barbecue will take place around noon at McGee Motors located on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich.

“I encourage everyone to take a few minutes out of your day tomorrow to come out and cheer on our Special Olympians or even better, lace up your running shoes and join us for a short walk or run. The Torch Run is always an event our Special Olympians and community volunteers look forward to every year. Rain or shine I hope to see our community members out supporting this great cause.” – Huron OPP Torch Run Coordinator, Acting Sergeant Russ Nesbitt.

Bus transportation from Goderich to Wingham will be provided free of charge. Please arrive at the Goderich OPP Detachment located on Courthouse Square prior to 8:00 a.m..
