(GODERICH, ON) – A 19 year old male is facing six criminal charges following an incident police responded to late last night. At 11:20 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of an intoxicated and upset male that was walking in the area of Cameron and Raglan Streets damaging vehicles. Police responded to the scene and located a Ford Taurus that had a smashed windshield.
Police were also informed by witnesses the same male was also seen driving a green Subaru Leagacy with two flat tires. Shortly thereafter, police observed the driver of the suspect vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Blake Street and South Street. Police followed the vehicle and it was stopped at a private drive on South Street.
Upon stopping the vehicle the driver immediately exited the car and attempted to push his way past the officers to gain entry into a residence. Officers determined the male was impaired by alcohol and proceeded to arrest the driver for impaired driving. The male began to resist arrest and attempted to break free from the officers. The male continued to resist arrest and head-butted one of the arresting officers. Officers were able to gain control of the male and he was placed into custody.
Officers then transported the male to the hospital to be checked over for a pre-existing injury and while he was being escorted into the hospital he proceeded to kick the escort officer.
Both officers sustained minor injuries.
As a result, 19 year old Daniel CURRAN-WENT, from Goderich has been charged with the following criminal code offences:
Two counts of Assault a Peace Officer contrary to section 270(1)(a)
Resist Peace Officer contrary to section 129(1)(a)
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a)
Driving While Ability Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a)
Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4)
He was held in custody for a bail hearing and has since been released from custody with his next court appearance scheduled for July 7, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
