Mathew SELKIRK – Drunk Driving

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A driver that failed to lower his high beams caught the attention of a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer last Friday night. On June 13, 2014 at 10:24 p.m. a Huron OPP patrol officer observed a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup travelling southbound on Lucknow Line and noticed the driver failed to lower his high beams to oncoming traffic. The driver also failed to keep his truck within the marked lane of travel.

A traffic stop was initiated on Lucknow Line south of Dungannon and upon speaking with the driver the odour of alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath. In addition, the driver displayed signs that he was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested for impaired driving and searched. A small quantity of marihuana and open alcohol was discovered. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both tests were over the legal limit.

As a result, Mathew SELKIRK, 31 from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Impaired Operation, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Marihuana), Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, Fail to Use Lower Beam – Oncoming Traffic and Drive Motor Vehicle without Proper Rear Light. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 14, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
