(Ottawa) Officers from the Ottawa Police West District Traffic Section in collaboration with West District NHO (Neighborhood Officers) conducted a proactive traffic enforcement initiative targeting cyclists on Monday, June 23rd, 2014.
The initiative’s goal was to improve the traffic interactions between cyclists, vehicles and pedestrians on the roadways and on or near multiuse pathways. Rob Wilkinson from “Safer Roads Ottawa†also attended and provided education, free safety equipment such as bike bells, reflectors and lights to cyclists and pathway users.
Results from the one day West District traffic blitz are:
29 Cyclist related contraventions and warnings;
65 Cyclist Verbal warnings;
106 Public Relations contacts with the community ;
1 arrest;
1 seized / recovered stolen bicycle;
