Fatal Collision Near Brussels Claims Life Of 21 Year Old

(HURON EAST, ON) - Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place earlier this afternoon east of Brussels.

Shortly after 12:38 p.m. Huron OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and Brussels Fire Department responded to the crash scene located at the intersection of Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) and McDonald Line.

The preliminary investigation indicates a sport utility vehicle was eastbound on Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) when the vehicle left the paved portion of the roadway, collided with the ditch and subsequently rolled before it came to rest upright within the intersection.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Sydney DIETRICH-ILLSLEY, 21 years of age, from Brussels.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) is currently closed between Victoria Street in Brussels and Fischer Line to the east. McDonald Line is closed between Brandon Road and Cranbrook Road. Please take an alternate route to avoid delays.
