OPP Member Charged With Sexual Assault & Overcome Resistance By Choking

(SMITHS FALLS, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) has arrested and charged an off duty OPP member in relation to a domestic incident.
OPP PSB officers commenced an investigation in October 2019 after receiving a complaint. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old male has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:
Sexual Assault - sec 271 - three counts, and with
Overcome Resistance by Choking -sec 246 - three counts.
The accused was released on an undertaking. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date and has been suspended with pay, in accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario.
The investigation by the OPP PSB is continuing.
The identity of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim. The accused has been a member of the OPP (East Region) for four years.
