Lawn Mowing Strike Leads To Sidewalk Victory & Service Request

Source: WFP
Date: Tue Jun 18 23:25:19 MST 2019

You likely have heard that WFPs 10+ year battle to clear our sidewalks won a major victory at the last council meeting when they made it illegal for town staff to dump snow on our sidewalks and make our children walk in traffic to get to school.

This victory was due to a lawn mowing strike that got council to update their property standards bylaw. Now that uncut municipal grass needs tending to. Below is a copy of an email service request sent to Town Hall.

-----
I would like to request that the municipally owned land adjacent to XXX Victoria St. East be maintained by town staff according to North Hurons property standards bylaw. This is municipal land and as such the expense of maintenance is the responsibility of North Huron.

The grass has not been cut this year, nor have the ruts caused by the snow removal equipment during the winter been tended to.

June is nearly over and this section of municipally owned property has been completely neglected by town staff.

Please maintain this municipally owned property within 48 hours or I will have no choice but to contract out the work or do the maintenance myself and send North Huron the bill. It is my understanding North Huron would typically charge $600 for this service, I believe I can have it done for half the cost.

Please make sure work is done in accordance with your property standards bylaw and that the grass is under 6 inches, there are no hazardous objects or materials, domestic animal excrement, rubbish or other debris.

Please note there will be zero tolerance for trespassing and the property is covered by numerous video cameras.
