(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) � A driver has been charged with impaired after being stopped due to their erratic driving.
On April 15, 2024, just shortly after 8:30pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer was patrolling westbound on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township when they observed a vehicle ahead swerve nearly striking a transport that was directly beside it. The officer activated that emergency lighting on their cruiser to conduct a traffic stop and after a short period of time, the vehicle pulled to the shoulder. The officer approached the diver and after a short conversation, read them the Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand. The driver provided a sample of their breath and as a result was arrested. Upon arrest, containers of alcohol were found to be within reach of the driver.
Martin NDUNG�U (age 47) of East York, ON, was arrested and charged with:
� Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
� Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
� Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor
� Unsafe Move � lane or shoulder
� Fail to surrender insurance card
� Fail to stop � nearest edge of roadway � for emergency vehicle
The accused had their driver�s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 28, 2024.
