(KINGSTON, ON) � The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has laid charges after a serious assault at Millhaven Institution, west of Kingston.
On April 15, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m. an inmate suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted with an edged weapon. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment and is recovering.
The Correctional Service of Canada contacted the Penitentiary Squad following the incident and has assisted with the investigation.
On April 18, 2024, members of the Penitentiary Squad arrested inmate Ekene ANGIBO, age 24, and charged him under the Criminal Code with:
Aggravated assault, sec. 268
Assault with a weapon, sec. 267(a)
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, sec. 88
Carrying a concealed weapon, sec. 90
The accused remains in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on April 19, 2024.
