Only One Headlight Leads To $30,000 Drug Bust

(HAWKESBURY, ON) � The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people, and seized more than $30,000 worth of drugs and $2,235 in Canadian currency following a traffic stop.
On April 16, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 417 at mile marker 35 due to a burnt out headlight.
As a result of the investigation, the driver � 34-year-old Etienne Joseph Montpetit from Ottawa � was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and the Criminal Code (CC):
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Cocaine
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Methamphetamine
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Other Drugs
CC Adult possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 � in Canada
The passenger, 39-year-old Ryan Gordon from Ottawa, was also charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and the Criminal Code (CC):
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Cocaine
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Methamphetamine
CDSA � Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Other Drugs
CC Adult possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 � in Canada
Both males were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on May 8, 2024 at the L�Orignal Court of Justice.
