(SOUTH HURON, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating the recent overnight theft of some cannabis plants stolen from a residence in Exeter.
Sometime between 10:00 p.m. on October 7, 2020 and 7:00 a.m. on October 8, 2020 a thief entered onto the property of a residence located on Victoria Street East and stole three mature cannabis plants.
As with anything that holds value it is recommended property owners take steps to protect their property. Here are some tips and suggestions to keep your plants safe and secure.
Keep vigilant and report to police immediately any suspicious people or activity in your neighbourhood.
Deter potential criminals by ensuring outside lights work and by installing motion sensor lights.
Ensure gates are shut and locked at all times.
Trees and shrubs can create hiding spots for criminals. Keep your landscaping groomed and limit privacy fencing.
Consider installing surveillance cameras that monitor vulnerable areas of your property.
Avoid posting pictures of your plants on social media. Advertising the fact you have plants growing on your property may lead to theft.
If you have the ability to grow your plants in a secure area it would be wise to do so.
If you happen to catch a thief on your property stealing your cannabis plants or anything for that matter, please don't confront the person. Call police right away and provide the best description of the suspect as possible.
Any person with information regarding this theft should immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 482-1677.
Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
