Charge Laid In Fatal Collision On Amberley Road

(HOWICK, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Listowel resident with Careless Driving Causing Death stemming from a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place this past summer.

On July 16, 2019 at approximately 7:39 a.m. Huron OPP officers, Huron County Paramedic Services and Howick Fire Department attended the scene of a two vehicle crash located on Amberley Road west of Molesworth.

The subsequent collision investigation by members of the Huron OPP Detachment and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team has determined the defendant was driving a pickup truck westbound on Amberley Road when his vehicle crossed the centre line into the path of an oncoming dump truck. The dump truck driver, 55-year-old Paul DOUGLAS from Howick Township died as a result of the collision.

On Friday, November 22, 2019 Huron OPP charged Travis BENDER, 24 years of age from Listowel with Careless Driving Causing Death. He now has a scheduled court appearance on December 17, 2019 at Provincial Offences Court in Goderich.
