(HURON EAST, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a novice driver from Brussels with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration - 80 Plus following a single motor vehicle crash that took place last week in Huron East.

Just before 10:00 p.m. on June 7, 2019 Huron County OPP officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that left the roadway and had crashed into the ditch on Moncrieff Road.

The subsequent investigation revealed the accused's vehicle had been observed travelling in an erratic fashion just prior to the collision. Upon speaking with the young driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. As a result, the driver provided a sample of his breath into an approved screening device, his subsequent tests resulted in a fail.

He was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for Intoxilizer tests.

He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

A subsequent search of the involved vehicle resulted in police seizing a quantity of Cannabis.

Tyler VANDERMEER, 18 years of age, from Brussels has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Person Under 19 Years - Possess Cannabis and Novice Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero. He was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for July 15, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was towed from the scene and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
