Repeat Offender Arrested In Large Fentanyl Bust - WALSH

(HURON COUNTY, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has put a significant dent into the local supply of fentanyl following an investigation conducted by members of the Huron-Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU).

Just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 an officer with the Huron-Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) conducted a traffic stop of a car on Huron Street West in Exeter.

The driver verbally identified himself to the officer however upon checking the name and date of birth provided, the officer noted some obvious discrepancies in the identity. As such the driver was placed under arrest for obstructing a peace officer.

Following the driver's arrest a search of the driver and vehicle was conducted. This search resulted in police seizing a large quantity of suspected purple fentanyl. The estimated street value of the seized fentanyl is nearly $21,000. Additionally, officers located and seized over $20,000 in Canadian currency.

Upon confirming the actual identity of the accused, police determined the driver held a suspended driver's licence and was also wanted on outstanding offences by Waterloo Regional Police Service.

Following this traffic stop, on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Huron County OPP executed a search warrant at a residence located on Mill Street in the Municipality of South Huron, Huron County.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized a quantity of Buprenorphine - a Schedule I Substance, trace amounts of fentanyl, a prohibited weapon (push-dagger style knife), digital scale and drug packaging materials.

Philip WALSH, 38 years of age from South Huron has been charged with:
Obstruct Peace Officer
Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest
Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking (Buprenorphine)
Possession of a Schedule I Substance - (Fentanyl)
Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime
Driving While Under Suspension
Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
Fail to Comply with Recognizance - Four Counts

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 14, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
